Homemade Sun Dress

Abbey and I made this dress yesterday afternoon...a perfect sewing day since it poured on and off all day. She picked out the material and helped with the hems. We really had NO idea what we were doing, but got lucky in the fact that it really is, in fact, wearable!!!
(We found the material and stretchy thing at JoAnn Fabrics. Don't ask me how I did it, because seriously, it was a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants project. You wouldn't want to follow my instructions, trust me.)

    LOVE IT! I've always wanted to make little dresses my girl. I guess I would need a sewing maching. And know how to thread the needle thingy, and try to work the foot pedal thingie. Very, very cute!!

    Sarah and Abbey - perfect! Perfect dress to start with, perfect for summer, looks great! I won a $100 gift card to JoAnn ETC for their 66th anniversary - I was one of their top 66 customers (based on coupon/mailer - which is actually in Annie's name). I guess I shop there a lot....Annie and I plan to split it.

    Super cute! I can not sew clothing to save my life, but this gives me a bit of hope. ;) I love the whole vignette of that photo, btw. That table with the baskets and the acessories are awesome! Your home always looks so inviting and kid friendly.

    Super cute dress!

    The gathered part of the material is super easy to do yourself...you just use elastic thread on your bobbin, and regular thread on the top, and you can shirr your material yourself. I just learned how to do it this summer, and I have been making my daughter lots of summer dresses. Check out my blog for a couple websites I found that can help do the shirring. I think the post about it is back in May...You really should try it, its much easier than it looks. Trust me! I am just teaching myself how to sew too!

    But the dress looks awesome!
