Children are not a distraction from the more important work.
They are the most important work.

Encouragement For The Week

Christmas is what we decide it will be and that means there is a need to guard our hearts and homes a little-relatives, the media, the neighbors, friends, stores, your church, etc, will all come into play as an influence so it is right and good to set out in our heads what we want Christmas to look like for our families.

From THIS post.

People would much rather have your attention,
than your perfection.

Encouragement For The Week

you are not fit for a happy life

unless you learn to be content

in every situation.

contentment doesn't result in

having everything you desire.

it stems from showing appreciation

to the little thing you have.

Encouragement For The Week

I have found the only way to pull myself out of hard times, low points of my life, grief, a rut, or just the feeling of "stuck", is feeling grateful.  How does one feel grateful?

We have to stop.  Gratitude comes with silence.

It comes when we rise above our circumstances and look at the bigger stretch of life, not this moment in time when we are struggling.

It is floating above into the blue sky and looking down on your entire journey of life-what has happened, what is happening, what we want to happen.  It's the ability to see our journey as just that-a stretch of time we are allowed here on earth to FEEL.

Pain is universal, suffering is universal.  We are not and never will be the only humans who are walking through what we are walking through now whatever that could be.  And many would trade places with us.

Thank God for the gift of time and all experiences.  For beauty.  For the one or two or if we are so lucky, the many, who love us.  And who we love in return.  Start with the tiniest thing.   Know that the difficult, if we allow it to change us, can make us stronger and better-it's the unwrapping of those gifts that is the painful part.  Know that the harder and deeper you fall, you will rise that much higher and feel joy that much more.

Everyone has a bad list and a good list.  The bad things, the good things.  It's the ability to focus on the good, and to find a way to make that list so so much longer than the bad list, that pulls us out of pain.

That is gratitude.  A choice.

What if we just tried contentment? What if we accepted our homes as they are, linoleum, old cabinets, tiny closets, squeaky doors, hand-me-down sofa, and worked with and learned to love what we have right in front of us? I think our grandparents did this much better than we have ever done. Most of them lived in the same home for their lifetimes, and took such good care of what they had, whether it was the "in" thing or not.

Yesterday is gone.  Tomorrow is yet to come.  We have only today.  If we help our children to be what they should be today, they will have the necessary courage to face life with greater love.

I don't recall now whether the ironing was always finished early in the week, whether we had pie or cake for desert, whether the dusting was done each day, or whether Mother canned five or five hundred quarts of fruit, but I do remember that she took "time out" to play with us.

Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity!
I say, let your affairs be as two or three,
and not a hundred or a thousand instead of a million count half a dozen,
and keep your accounts on your thumb-nail.

But once I had children, as any mother will understand, my time was never my own again!
Children simply don’t fit into neat little time packages to be parceled out in advance!
Even now, the demands of my adult children take my time.
But I am thankful they come to me for counsel, for love, for friendship.
Now, it is one of my best gifts to have them as a best friend.
But relationship is built on a foundation of love given, time invested without resentment."
Sally Clarkson

Even if we spend a lot of money on gifts for everyone in our family,
nothing we buy could give them as much happiness
as the gift of our awareness,
our smile.
And this gift costs nothing.

Encouragement For The Week

You will never have this day with your children again.

Tomorrow they will be a little older than they were today.

THIS DAY IS A GIFT.

Just breathe, notice their faces, and little feet.

PAY ATTENTION.

It will be over before you know it.

If the grass looks greener on the other side...
stop staring.
Stop comparing.
Stop complaining.
Start watering the grass you are standing on.

Encouragement For The Week

Rushing and a tight time table does not equal happy moms or happy babies or happy toddlers. Settle in.
Settle in at home with your role as mother,
embrace it fully and trust that the time you give these years-if you give your children your attention, and structure and find ways to enjoy your days at home,
it will all pay off.

Encouragement For The Week

Every birth begins as a mystery, an enterprise whose outcome cannot be foretold. We think, "may all be well." And all is well - almost always.

But joy is only the beginning of the journey. And we must move forward, fueled by faith.

We can decide to be happy, make much out of little, embrace the warmth of our ordinary days.

Life unfolds as a mystery.  An enterprise whose outcome cannot be foretold.

We do not get what we expect.  We stumble on cracks, are faced with imperfection, bonds tested and tightened.  And our landscapes shift in sunshine and in shade.

There is light.
There is.

Look for it.
Look for it shining over your shoulder on the past.

It was light where you went once.
It was light where you are now.
It will be light where you will go again.

Encouragement For The Week

Peace is the beauty of life.
It is sunshine.

It is the smile of a child, the love of a mother,
the joy of a father, the togetherness of a family.

It is the advancement of man,
the victory of a just cause,
the triumph of truth.
