A November Halloween

I am late on Halloween pictures but I have a good excuse.  Our Halloween trick or treating was cancelled and rescheduled on November 3rd.  I know, that's crazy isn't it?  I thought so, let me tell you.  A little rain in the forecast and all panic breaks loose in the mayor's office and here we are, trick or treating in November, which frankly, just didn't seem right.  In my 44 years I've trick or treated in beautiful weather, but also rain, snow, and sleet.  I think kids can take a little disappointment, whether that's a shortened night, or a wet costume-there is always next year!  I'll leave it at that, but everyone around this house already heard it from, and might just be saying, "mom, get over it!", so I will already.  Geez, I just hope we don't postpone Christmas because the snow isn't falling!

My two girls:

Abbey was Rosie the Riveter...which was not only the cutest costume ever, but so easy and cheap to put together.

My little bunny...I really squeezed her into this one.

Matt went to a friend's house to go trick or treating with a large group of classmates, so I don't have a picture of him dressed up, darnit.

Andrew was a zombie, and Patrick was a Power Ranger at the last minute.  First he was going to be a Storm Trooper, and then Luke Skywalker, but I saw this Power Ranger costume for next to nothing at the store and he was overjoyed.  (I don't think he even knows what a Power Ranger is, but it trumped Star Wars in his mind.)

The next morning it looked like a bomb went off in my house.  But I ate a Hershey bar for energy, and tackled it like there was no tomorrow.  I love a post-holiday clean out almost as much as I love a pre-holiday clean out and this is the perfect time for both.

  1. They all look so cute, but I think I like "Rosie's" costume best! Great idea for an older girl!!

  2. What a sweet little bunny! And I agree about Halloween being on Halloween! We went out and the kids didn't notice the rain in the least (or the fact that we only went out for 30 min!)

  4. Those girls are precious! I live in Texas and I can promise we have never cancelled Halloween for any reason especially weather! We do in all fairness live in a large city...Fort Worth and they could care less if we get to trick or treat! I do remember one year that it was so hot...about 90 degrees that my then 4 year old daughter stripped out of her costume in the Baptist church parking lot! She was so done!

  6. I could not believe the amount of parents who had a fit that ours wasn't cancelled. What I also couldn't believe was the amount of M&M's the kids got... why? Because the packages aren't waterproof. By the next morning the little orange pumpkins were covered in stickiness from candy dissolving through the wrappers! Super annoying but the bright side is that tossing it all means less sneaking for me!

  7. Love Abby's costume. I bet she was one of a kind.
Also, I agree with you about postponing any holiday--pretty lame.

  9. Love all the photos! I agree...I am done with Halloween 8pm, Oct 31st!! Don't keep dragging it out. Janey's hair is getting thicker and longer and she's looking so big. :) You have such beautiful kids!

  10. Re-scheduled Halloween??? I have never heard of such a thing! Crazy!! That will be a fun story for the future though :) Abbey was the 4th or 5th Rosie the Riveter costume I saw this year...but she was by far the cutest!!! I love the photo of the 3 kids on the front porch with the glowing jack-o-lanterns. A perfect shot! Glad your Halloween was fun, even if it was in November. LOL

  11. Your little "bunny" is so adorable! We live in Wisconsin and it poured like crazy but my kids dealt with it and had a good time! Actually, people were handing out handfuls of candy thinking they wouldn't get many kids.

  12. Do you live in Kentucky too? Ours was cancelled also but because of high winds and possible tornados. The next day did turn out well weather wise but it seemed funny doing so in November.

  13. i saw rosie the riveter everywhere this year for some reason...but i love the idea! i agree about halloween, our town went nuts b/c they did or didn't cancel halloween in certain neighborhoods. i mean parents were up in arms (on both sides) and i thought...geez i wish we could get this much excitement from some parents about something important! love all the costumes!!

  14. Abbey is adorable! I love that idea. I was so over Halloween, I'm glad ours wasn't postponed. As a mom you count on it being over on the 31st :) Now I wish I could get the energy for the holiday clean-out we desperately need!
