For Rainy Days

Today Janey and I are inside, doing a little of nothing.  I have spent the last couple days like a woman on a mission.  I raked the yards (back and front) with help from kids after school, and Jeff also, and cleaned the basement, and ran eight errands in the shortest time possible.  I dropped off a few things to Goodwill, because I am still trying to get this house into sparse and spotless condition before the holidays.  I cleaned my closet, and the boy's closest and the toy closet.  I pitched an old beat up cabinet that was cheap and falling apart, in my living room, and sorted and organized the toys we have and put them into baskets on the floor.  It might not look decorator-ish, but Janey loves it, and it's sure easy to keep tidy.

It feels good.  I had a full page of things to do, in small print, in my notebook, and they are all crossed off.

I am grateful for the energy to burn-being a mom takes a heck of a lot of work, and I know when I was sick with each pregnancy, the hardest thing was just thinking about what was not getting done, and missing that sense of accomplishment.

But today we are resting, because it is rainy and dreary and I am plum tuckered out and Janey needs some floor time with undivided attention.  I have always loved rainy days, here and there (not everywhere!)  It's nice to have an excuse to stay inside and sit on the floor and play, or read, or take long naps and recharge.

  4. Sarah--the space looks really awesome--and it does look like it's Janey approved! ;) I have definitely sorted toys enough times to know what a huge amount of work that was to do. I have been avoiding my basement like the plague and I really just need to get down there and get it done.

  7. Ahhh your comments about being grateful for your energy are SO true...especially coming from someone who is 14 weeks pregnant and has the stamina of a pea pod right now. I am overwhelmed beyond belief!! I know this too shall pass but boy oh boy is it hard not being able to keep up with any of it. Thanks for letting me vent:) Love the post!!

  8. I miss those sit on the floor days! I have a nearly 3 month old grandson coming up though! I sure hope I can get off the floor!

  9. I too love relishing in moments like that...where house is decluttered, errands are done and then comes the sacred rest! You must love that pink ensemble on Janey, she seems to wear it in every picture.

  11. Oh my word - my favorite! Resting with the kids on a rainy day after being productive. Except I usually turn a movie on instead of playing on the floor. That's why you are super mom and I'm only a semi-super mom. ;) Enjoy your weekend Sarah! That pic of Janey is adorable!

    1. Hi Christine-
The carpet in our house (we put it in about 8 years ago) has been discontinued, I'm sorry. I'm going to have to match it pretty soon, as we are replacing it in a few rooms, and I will let you know what I find that is a very very close match. Sorry!
