Big Brother

Patrick is doing great relinquishing his "youngest" position over to Janey.
He really does love her and "helps" me with her all the time.
He is always gentle and not always quiet.  She doesn't seem to mind all the noise in our household though.
Patrick has been a little clingy to me-if I am upstairs, he is upstairs, if I leave a room I will hear "Mommmm, where are you?" soon after-that gets a little old after awhile but I am sure he will outgrow it. (Soon?)
He moved up to the big boy's room and a little reward chart helped with that milestone.

I am excited for him to start preschool.
And to get a good routine going in the household.  I had four different school starts spread over 4 weeks and that wasn't easy.  I just want our"new normal" to begin and STAY for awhile.

  1. LOL!!! That last photo cracks me up. It says it all doesn't it? I remember it well. ; ) It's so adorable....a little boy laying his treasures at his little sister's "feet".

Here's to a new normal schedule soon.

Congrats to Patrick on moving up to the bigger boys room!

  2. We are also hoping to find a schedule in our new days of pre-school. I'm sure it will come for all of us by the end of september - or we can hope!

  3. OMG! This is the cutest thing ever! How sweet! The last photo specifically made me smile a big smile! I remember my little son tucking his stuffed toys all over ME night! He tucked them all over. He did this to make me not miss HIM! Then, after a while I think he did this to 'clean up'! It certainly was easier than taking them all upstairs to his room! Ah, those were the days!!

  4. I'm sure janey got used to household noise while still on the inside. Good for Patrick for being a cool big brother! That last pic is absolutely priceless.

  5. Love the cars in the bassinet. Pretty much sums it all up at this stage, doesn't it?

Hope he finds his footing again, soon, and the new routine settles in.

  6. Love that last picture! How sweet is he! It looks like you have not missed a beat and will back to "new normal" in no time!

  7. That last photo just warmed my heart. I've been following you blog for a couple of years and it's one of my favorites!

  8. I just love the last photo!! We have a lot of that kind of "sharing" around he , too!! I just love it! Can you share the name of those blocks your son is playing with? They look like fun, thanks!

  9. So precious...she's growing so much already! "New normal" I've used those words so many times....Sometimes I think that with kids - not sure if it's the number - 2, 4, 6 - that normal is always changing. Yet I crave order and routine....I know I went through an adjustment during those teen years because normal was changing so rapidly. I hope that Patrick's transition to preschool goes smoothly and that you can have a little respite with everyone in school.

  10. Patrick is a little star! What a good Big Brother he is! And starting school will confirm his status as one on the Big Kids. Will he finally get to ride to school bus this year?

  11. Hi Sarah! That last picture is adorable!! Could you post how you keep track of everyone's schedule? Do you have a HUGE calendar somewhere that has all of the events posted? It's only the 2nd day of school, and already I'm drowning!! Thanks!!

  12. So sweet...that last photo is priceless! When my brother was born, my 2 year old cousin came in and put his hot wheels in the bed with my brother and he looked up and said "him won't play"! So sweet.

  13. I love the pic with the cars. Too sweet. =) Can I ask where you found that marble track! It would be perfect for an upcoming birthday in our house!

  14. Such great pictures Sarah! Janey is so beautiful. I was wondering what that adorable block set is. You have had such great toy recommendations in the past and that looks like a great toy. Thanks for sharing.

  15. Glad Patrick is doing well, he is such a little sweetie! That last picture is too cute, he is going to share his cars with Janey. :)

  16. I still can't get over how much she and Patrick look alike.
I predict that Janey and Patrick will become best buddies. My two youngest are EXACTLY two years apart to the day, but might as well be twins. They have sleep overs in eachothers rooms on the weekends and they play together at school during recess time. I love it.
Having a big brother is a treasure I wish I had.

  17. Now that Eliza is sitting up... my little Leo has taken to "rescuing" her when she "accidentally" falls backwards. He just turned 3 so I thinks it's been hard to have someone steal his thunder. We've had quite a few talks over the last few days :o( He was great with her when she was first born, but now that she's clowning around and doing things to make us laugh, I think he's noticing that he's got a little competition in the cute department. This too shall pass though, lol.

  19. Love the cars!
One of my favorite photos is similar when my Sophie put a flower on Owen in his little cradle.

  20. I know you are going to get lots of questions about this but where did you get that wooden marble track- that is what it is isn't it? I had a plastic one and the kids loved it but it didn't hold up. How do you always have the most awesome toys for your kids? We must talk.

  23. I love that she sleeps in front of the window. That's where I always put mine too in their white bassinet... Made me so happy to see the birds chirping right outside, like they were talking to my babies :) I will admit to you though that having a big snake ( or any snake for that matter) freaks me out to no end with a baby in your house.... Not that I know you at all in real life but I never in a million years would of thought you'd be ok with that :) anyhoo, glad things are all rolling along well with you and yours! Blessings to you!

  25. Congratulations on the arrival of your beautiful daughter. We all know babies are born every day but when you hold your own and stare down at their precious little face, arms and fingers it really is a miracle. She is beautiful. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

  27. I just had a baby in July and my daughter is 4 and follows me around the house as well. She yells mom if I'm not right beside her. Hopefully they feel more secure soon : ). I'm sure it's a huge adjustment for them. My daughter has the same little outfit : ). So sweet, she wore it today. Congratulations Sarah! Xoxo

  28. Remember, you were gone for a few days having the new baby. So Patrick is making sure you are nearby now because he missed you so much then. Gives you more time to talk to him and hear his conversations...

  29. Congratulations! What a beautiful baby (and family) you have.

I know just what you mean about craving a new normal that lasts - every time we have another baby it happens to me, too.

    Blessings to you. :)

  31. I am with Christianne! You always have the best toys and I was coming here to leave a comment about the one in the pics. I would love to know more about it too! Santa brought Giles one for Cmas last year that is plastic, it's ok, but this one looks much nicer!!!

  32. Patrick is just so darling. The toys in her crib/bassinet is SO familiar. That is the purest love--when the older child shares one of their dear little possesions with the baby. As for him following you around the house, well, ALL my children were born clingy, so until they became bookworms (age 7 or so) they would be two steps behind me in the house. I mostly love it, but sometimes I want to runout the door to find a space all to myself.

  33. I love this post! I have a just-turned-4-yo boy (who is never without his Lightning McQueen car) and a 2.5 mo old. The big brother thing is precious, but he has definitely been clingy lately. I'm glad to know that isn't unusual. My husband fights fire, and this summer has been very busy so we have been without him for most of the last 2 months. When one kiddo is being a barnacle, the other is crying, and I'm sleep-deprived, I just have to laugh at the madness and mess that is my life and give them a few extra squeezes. Your Janey is precious and beautiful, and I LOVE her name!
