Abbey passed her driver's test!
Now maybe she can drive herself to the jean's store to buy jeans without rips in them. (I'm kidding Abbey!) I wore jeans with holes in them that I put there on purpose in high school and college. I cringe at that now (and I'm sure my parents did also), but that was the cool thing back then. I have to remember that when I open my mouth to say, "Really??? You PAID someone for those???"
She took Andrew to get ice cream that very same day. Freedom! She is ready for some. In small doses of course. A run to the store for me, an outing with a little brother, a pick up or drop off nearby. No highway yet-that freaks me out a little too much now.
A reader asked me how I deal with the whole driving thing-how I get over the fear of it. It's SO hard at first. We start slow...really slow...and the truth is, you just have to get over it. And pray. And of course, every teen is different, and probably ready at a different time for this responsibility. Abbey has honestly been ready for awhile. I lost my driver to college 3 weeks ago, so I was hoping Abbey would pass her test just so I have an emergency back-up driver in the house again. (Although I have to say that it seems with school and crew Abbey is home just about never!)
it's such an exciting time for them and while as a parent, it's scary, you're right...you just have to get over it...and pray, lots & lots of prayers~
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Abbey!!!!! And YAY for a new driver in the house :)
ReplyDeleteWow! My 15 year old is counting the hours until she earns her permit, but frankly, I'm not ready at all! Although I definitely can see the advantages of having another driver around, especially with a newborn:-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Abbey!
she is so pretty! and looking so grown up. I love the picture of Abbey holding her little sister. Precious. ALL your children are just so sweet. You are blessed :)
ReplyDeleteHaving a license is such an exciting time. (I got my license the DAY of my b-day.) Congrats!
Yay, Abbey! Yes, it indeed IS a blessing to have an additional driver in the house.
ReplyDeleteI rarely comment, but your blog is always a gift to me, and I just want you to know that I truly appreciate your blog time. I KNOW it's so hard with a newborn in the house, so again, Thank You.
Hope you're having a wonderful day.
Are Andrew's feet bigger than Abbey's? Such a sweet picture of the two of them.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Abbey, and way to go Sarah on getting a helper that can drive! Can I speed up my oldest's age just so he can help schlep all the kids around?? As soon as I got my license I was driving an hour each way to go to highschool (mostly highway) - what were my parents thinking??
ReplyDeleteI am really happy that they have to be 18 here to pass their driver's test. But I must admit it's really nice to have another driver in the family. I am going to lose my second driver to college next month. I did a lot of praying. BUT I prefer my son driving himself instead of him getting in the car with somebody I do not know who has perhaps drunk too much.
ReplyDeleteMy second just got her driver's license as well. So nice when there is no one else to take her - she can now take herself to her own activities! Love it!
ReplyDeleteYes, you do need a backup driver!! My daughter is 15 (tomorrow) and is "in training". It is soooo hard because you have to pray that the other driver's do their job, too!
ReplyDeleteI did not even recognize her!!! I seriously thought you got "a driver" LOL! She's so grown up, wow!!

Perfect timing! College baby leaves. New baby born. Baby girl drives. God is in the details! Pretty Abbey!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the driving part with me... Julia is 12 and I am already pretty nervous about her safety :)
ReplyDeleteEvery one of your posts lately is a major milestone! I don't know how you keep up - or keep up with the blogging, for that matter! WOW!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Abbey! And congrats to you for getting another emergency driver :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats Abbey!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Abbey! And to you, Sarah...I am looking forward to Madison getting her license. It will be nice to have an extra driver! But she currently has a C in her Drivers Ed class.... may be some time yet! : )
ReplyDeleteOh, 'new' driver days and rules! We made a rule that the 'new' driver had to have a parent beside them in the front seat for the first month when driving at night. It was a great rule, and saved me many hours of worry.
ReplyDeleteNext comes the third car...but maybe you already have that.
Wonderful! I hate it when we are between drivers, once you've had a teen driver you wonder how you ever got along without them! Congrats to Abbey and hurrah for you! Ps that little Janey is a doll!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness....are her shoelaces tied in those curly little knot tie thingies that we all did back in high school with our Eastlands??? I can't believe that has come back in style! Well, I CAN believe it. Such a blast from the past! Love it.
