Meant To

I meant to write a 40 Days post with photos this week.  I started off strong and then another storm hit and two snow days followed and that was that.  My camera is at school with Abbey so I am forced to make do today.

So far I've cleaned out my master bathroom and my little make up area and our closet.  I made Jeff clean out his closet last weekend, which meant I stood there with a garbage bag and forced him to go through his side. We had one full garbage bag of "donate" when we were finished.

I am posting this photo of my side of the closet because I noticed the layer of dust on the high heels on the top shelf and thought that it was funny and says a lot about the life I lead.  Honestly, I don't think those shoes even fit me anymore-at least comfortably-since baby #6 smashed my feet down even more-but I keep them because I might need them for an emergency (wedding, funeral, rare special event) and the last thing I want to shop for ever again is high heels.
My closet is pretty pared down but I found a few things to donate-itchy sweater, stretched out t-shirts.

Our sewing/craft/scrapbook/gift wrap/stationary/Rainbow loom cabinet.

All my purses and accessories. :)  The box is for receipts.

Next week-a motivation post, and more pics.

  2. You might need to start using that extra closet shelf for your next scrapbooks. :) That armoire is working hard for you.

  3. Oh my, she has grown :-( I can totally relate to the high heels (never wear them, but keep a few just in case). The only reason mine do not have dust on them is I keep all my "nicer" shoes in clear plastic shoe boxes (for that reason, LOL).

  4. Love your thoughtful, and frankly wonderful writing. And closet! Can you share a full pic of your closet, it looks very functional and would love to see how you have things stored. I seem to have piles of jeans and I notice you have pants hanging. Maybe that is a better strategy.

  7. I started out strong on the 40 bags - did the linen closet, several needy kitchen areas and my ensuite bathroom. I derailed when I saw that I had no appointments or playdates this week, and the weather was supposed to be nice all week (10 deg C/ 50 deg F) - so I started painting the dark 70's wood trims and doors in my daughter's room bright white. Nearly done, but I think my husband has banned me from starting any more projects as it is still technically winter here. Once I put the room back together, and re-load the closet I can "bag it". also - did you know that there are both a Twitter and Facebook hashtag for your 40 bags project? I was indignant that someone stole your idea, until I saw that the blogger that posted it was inspired by your blog - your wisdom is far reaching!

  11. How do you manage your jewellery? I feel overwhelmed with that and do you have rules for clothes in your decluttering?

  13. I just have to say THANK YOU for showing your shoe storage. We have tons of shoes in this family and no suitable storage solution. This is perfect, and being married to a cabinet maker makes it all the better. Thank you for sharing.

  14. you always inspire me! I am cleaning and de cluttering weekly! today, the office closet. Our closet is majorly pared down since I lost 33 pounds and nothing fits me anymore. Going to have a nice big garage sale as soon as it warms up. If it ever does! Love those pared down pics, keep them coming!

  15. The multi-tasking craft piece made me giggle a little bit. It is so hard to juggle all those things into a space.

  16. Thank you for this post series! I used this for lent and I almost have a clutter free home. The biggest issue in our house was old paperwork from college, high school lol, the army and JUNK mail. Its only my husband, our son and myself but it still added up throughout the past few years. With my son being just under two and a new baby on the way its nice to know that when the house gets dirty it will be simpler to clean which means more time to play! I know my husband is ever so grateful to see the junk go! I'm definitely taking your advice in the future and tossing the junk as soon as it comes into our house. Thanks
