Spring Fever

We have AWFUL cases of Cabin Fever over here.

Anyways, I love this photo above-my Matthew, on a warm spring day long long ago in a far away land, taking deep breaths of that sweet-smelling green grass.  He made me laugh so hard when he did this-flung himself out the door and onto the ground in our front yard-and that moment always comes to my mind on days like we are having now-long, cold, dark, dreary, gray days of February.  One day soon we will see color and light and feel warmth, right?  I'm not sure we can stand it all much longer.

  2. Sigh...7 more inches of snow predicted here in WI. I have my nephew off from school today. He is eight. He really wants to go bowling and days off are for fun so I will take him. However, bowling and shoveling on the same day? My back hurts already. I guess these days make springtime and green grass that much sweeter.

  3. From a fellow mom living in Michigan with twin 5 year old boys, I'm not sure we are going to make it either. On top of that, they had this whole week off from school and we have been traped inside!

  4. My husband and I go for a 2 mile walk every evening...rain or shine...hot or cold. (It's a wonderful way to connect one on one plus get some exercise!) But lately I am DREAMING of time when I don't have to bundle up with gloves, coat, gator, ear-warmer and boots. I always think February is the hardest month because it's the last month of winter weather and like you I am DYING for spring! Hang in there! :)

  5. Please think about Vitamin D for you and your family in the winter, especially for all of these no sun days. Within the past few years, the daily recommendations for adults and children have drastically increased. It is nearly impossible to get in your diet..only from 10-15 minutes of the sun. In addition, it has been shown to be so beneficial against so many cancers and diseases. Nature Made makes tiny capsules that are east to swallow and there are drops for kids. You do such a good, thoughtful job of taking care of your family that you should add this to your list!

  6. Every year at this time I wonder why we live in the Midwest and not somewhere that's warm and sunny all year long!

  7. Sarah, I am a Mom raising our 5 children ages 4-10 and have read your blog for 3 years. I enjoy it so much. Although the comments were diabled below, I just wanted to say what a terrific letter you wrote below. Many blessings to you; we will read this to our children, one day because it is to-the-point and TRUE. Bravo for speaking about about real, true things. There is so much broken-ness in this country as a result of turning away from God's right, true and just ways. Just think if your straighforward letter is to be used by only a few readers for good, that is just awesome. You may need to delete this because the comments were already turned off and that's OK. thank you! Mary in Atlanta

  8. Thank you so much for your blog. There are so many of us who appreciate your wisdom and your commitment to timeless values. Thank you for your letter below. As a country, we are becoming more and more polarized in our values and opinions. I appreciate the stand you have taken here. I'm with you, sista. I fully back you up. Love your heart.

  9. I am watching more snow fall here in Wisconsin. I am so tired of it. When I shop in the stores all I see is spring clothes, spring decor, spring household, but let's face it, in the midwest spring really doesn't arrive for at least another month and a half if we are lucky! I'm hanging on by a thread.

  10. I love that picture, it trully represents the joys of childhood, I live in rainy Vancouver,Canada, and it's been so dreary of late...so I hear you!

I too enjoyed your beautiful letter, kudos from a fellow mom!

  11. I know exactly what you mean about the Cabin Fever. We have had cold weather and a slight blizzard. The weather is toying with us because it will turn sunny and warm (anyhting above 40 is considered warm) and we will go outside only for it to start snowing again.
I would love for my grass to look as green as yours, so I just have to accept the snow and be thankful for it.
Can't wait for Spring and Easter. There's just something about Easter and Spring that makes me so happy and puts me in a different state of mind.

  12. I am so jealous of your beautiful green grass and for Matthew's white socks!!! (Isn't it funny what we notice?) I live in the desert where it takes a small miracle to get grass to even PRETEND to look like that, and with living on a dirt road, in the middle of an old cotton field which is full of dirt and tumble weeds, my kids socks NEVER look like that! I'm so jealous!!!

  13. Sarah, I have been away from the blogging world for 5 days and I missed you blog daily. I came here tonight while my husband was putting the three boys down to bed. The girls were quietly talking in their room.
It was a hard day today.
One of those days when you feel you are swmming against the current.
I cried reading your post from Wednesday...my heart was comforted. I told you before how I feel peace every time I come here. It happened again and I am ready to read that post to my husband because he loves you as much as I do. We live the way you and your husband live. I was raised by careful and frugal parents who worked HARD and believed in marriage and in the same values you shared with us. Values I live by. IT IS HARD! We need to be very careful and I worry about the world our children will raise their children. Yet I know they can do it and will fight for those morals and principles. I agree with EVERYTHING you wrote.
This is an inspired letter. We need to raise our voices like you did here. It saddens me to read some of the comments I read (I hope this comment here doesn't cause you problems...you can always keep it unpublished..I am okay with it...this is just for you) but I know most of your readers know your heart and felt so blessed that there is Sarah at Cloverlane, standing for all that is dear to us.

God bless you, your husband, your children and those that they will marry someday.

    Thank you.

    Love,

    Giulia

  14. I can completely relate to Matthew! I dream of a warm spring day and green grass too! I actually forced myself to get out of the house (it was COLD and WINDY) and into the city to visit a gallery because I could not take it being cooped up inside. Can't wait for Spring to get here!

    I loved your letter!

  15. "For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear."
2timothy4:3.... thank you for being brave sarah. the only thing i would add to that letter is to remember on the day when you don't have the strength to be who who we raised you to be... Jesus is the strength for you. call out to him and HE will remind you who you really are. :)
    PS I LOVE SPRING. :)

  19. Oh how that beautiful picture reminds me of my own boys laying in our grass in the summer. It almost brought tears to my eyes b/c right now I am so dreaming of green lush grass and the freedom of summer days.
