March Madness, February-Style

February-it's SOOO boring!  I told the boys the other day, attempting to make the month of 'bored-out-of-our-brains a little better', "It's February, the month of love!"  And one of them said, "Eewwww that makes it worse!"

Seriously, February, in the winter, with a bunch of boys, is enough to make any mom go bonkers.  I usually am worn down by now.  I don't think twice about walking past a boy hurling himself off the arm of a chair (my good chair!) to slam dunk.  One day years ago I let them take the sleds down the stairs-they had so much fun landing in a nest of blankets.  A few nights ago, Andrew found an old kitchen timer and set it up to see how fast he could run relays back and forth down the hallway-it was right before bedtime and I figured he hadn't met his entire energy expenditure of the day and had a few extra bursts to get out of his system.

We (I!) am looking forward to more light in the evening, warmer temperatures and being able to send everyone outside for long lengths of time.

  2. We just bought some badminton racquets for living room use... Shuttlecocks can't do any damage! (Although a poorly swung racquet could, I suppose.)

  3. I am in love with your good chair!! I just did a mini (very) makeover in blues- I think it was the cold that prompted it. I need spring!! ...and my boys are like caged animals right now. I can't take it!

    I love February because it's Valentine's Day and my birthday and we get a week off of school/work right in the middle :)

  11. Yes, come on down to Texas! Playing outside until it's too dark- only bad thing is that it makes homework a struggle. :)

  13. It drives my husband crazy when I relent and start letting them use the entire house as a gym but, well.....a mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do, I say! It is, after all, THE FEBRUARY.

  15. I don't realize how lucky we are to live in Florida. I have lived here since I was 2 so I don't have any perspective what the winter is like in other parts of the country. I'm usually just wishing I could get use out of my boots and sweaters for a few weeks. But just in the last few days, three other bloggers have talked about how hard February is with kids--not seeing the sun or going outside never occurs to me (not trying to pour salt on your wounds). Just need to remind myself to be grateful that it is 76 degrees and sunny and not be annoyed that "our" winter is over before it even began. Thanks for the perspective! Maybe we should trade homes in the winter months--we could see a little snow and you could come make sand angels at the beach :)

  16. February feels like the longest month, but there's something to love about it, too. {And congrats to your uncle; are they still #1? I am hoping my team beats them this Tuesday!}

  17. Can you show a picture of how you have the photos on the stairs arranged? I am thinking of doing something like that.

  19. This made me laugh! Winter is so long and brutal for us as well (we are in Fairbanks AK). We have about 7 months of winter and some days it is hard to go out because it is extremely cold, and we have little daylight. I can tell when we are on the gaining end of the daylight deal. It was after 5 yesterday and I was telling my son how exciting it is that it wasn't completely dark yet! Can't wait for summer! (even if it is so short. The 24-hour days make it so worth it!)

  22. I have that same basketball hoop and I have resorted to keeping it in my living room due to the vaulted ceilings. I see balls fly past my beautiful lamps and cute vases and I am not sure I even care anymore. Looking forward to warm weather and getting my living room back.

  23. We have several wrestling matches a day and lots of jumping from the couch, and that's even with our temperate Virginia winter weather. I love that you are able to let your kids exercise inside.
