Childhood Favorites

Nancy Plays Nurse was just about my favorite book ever.  Can you tell?  It's all taped up and falling apart.

I LOVE Home For A Bunny.  I also own the newer Golden Book edition and Patrick and I read it often.

And my all time favorite-"Spring, spring, spring!"
Another very worn copy. I think it was an Easter present from the Easter bunny when I was very young.
Hamilton Duck's Springtime Story.

I'm so glad my mom saved these for me, so my children could enjoy them also.

  1. I love old children's books, too! I just found a copy of Just Only John online for my little guy, John. I'm so excited for him to have the story and love that it is a used book. I feel like the artwork in the old books is just so much more appropriate and beautiful for kids. Not bright in your face colors. Thanks for sharing :).

  4. Two of my favorite Little Golden Books are Nurse Nancy and Doctor Dan. I had my mother's worn out copies to thumb through when I was a child and I adored them. When I had my own children I searched high and low for these two books and couldn't find them. However, a few years ago I received a package in the mail. I opened it to find both of these books! My mother had also been on the hunt and she found them for me. I was so touched and it was one of the best gifts I have ever received. I read both of them on a weekly basis to my children and I plan to tuck them away and keep them for my grandchildren some day.

  6. I have two very similar looking books, in same "loved" state. Ready to me by my Grandfather who died when I was 5. If I ran out of my burning house, I'd grab my babies and those two books.

  7. "my" copies of Gyo Fujikawa's Babies and Baby Animals have also been taped together dozens of times. I went a little nuts when I found one of them at the library and insisted on reading it to my 10 and 7 yr olds! :)

  8. Home For a Bunny was a childhood favorite of mine as well. I can't help but tearing up at the end now, every time I read it to the kids.

  10. P.s. love all the spring selections. I picked my first daffodil out of my yard yesterday-picking daffodils in early February is pure magic when you spent the first 30 years of your life up north. I love NC!

  11. When I was in high school I was a candy striper and had the same uniform! I love those old books and look for them often. You always have a good selection of older children's books. Your kids are so lucky to have you for a mom!

  12. I LOVE old children's books. A few commenters mentioned a few of my favorites, Eloise WIlkin golden books, and Babies by Gyo Fujikawasa. I think I have that one memorized and my babies LOVED it. I am now collecting books for my grandchildren and love reliving old favorites.
    {in fact my last post was on books for big people}

  15. I use to love Nancy Plays Nurse. But thinking back I don't remember if I had, or if it was a copy at my Grandma's house. I wonder where it went to.
