Thinking, Playing, Reading

Thinking:
There is nothing that has helped me more this last year than keeping a gratitude journal.  Yes, you hear it suggested a million times over, but I will admit it's absolutely true.  On days when I forget or don't make time, I can tell my spirit pays a price.  One thing that helped me is reading that it does not matter if you write the same thing every single day, just start, it will get easier because you will start seeing things differently-appreciation grows.

Playing:
Janey has been loving having her own "homework" (funny how different kids are-her brother is horrified that she might like doing school work outside of school!)

She is using this book right now and thankfully I have a few more on hand, because she goes through them quickly.

Reading:
The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell: A Novel by [Dugoni, Robert]

Just finished this. A great book, easy read, loved the mother in this book and her attitude towards her son's difference and how that impacted him for life.

My list of books to read keeps getting longer and longer-winter will be for catching up!

  1. I have loved all the Kumon books we used! Especially the pre-writing skills and beginning writing ones...

  2. Hi Sarah! I am so so happy to keep seeing such frequent posts from you and pray for your continued health!
Have you read One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp? It's a few years old so I'm sure it's nothing new that I'm recommending it to you! But it's essentially her gratitude journal written in poetic chapter form supplemented with theological research and just her daily life experience. She fleshes out the meaning of the Greek word Eucharisteo means to give thanks and this is one of my favorite parts -

"Eucharisteo wakens me wide-eyed and nodding to the words of Tagore that I, a mother of six, now own, bought with the practice of eucharisteo, "I slept and dreamt life was joy, I awoke and saw life was service, I acted and, behold, service was joy.”4

I reach out and touch the reflection in the splattered mirror over the sink and whisper into those eyes: Yes, today, again, yes, you can bless! Here you can enact eucharisteo; here you can become a current in a river of grace that redeems the world!

Here I can become the blessing, a little life that multiplies joy, making the larger world a better place."

This book definitely helps me keep my gratitude journal going! 😀
