A Little Summer Escape

Has anyone been watching Poldark? I thank Stephanie for bringing to my attention this wonderful little PBS gem based on a series of books by Winston Graham.  I love everything about this show-the romantic plot line, the characters, the costumes, the excellent acting, the cinematography, and the beautiful setting.

(I had to include this photo just to prove to you that the setting is beautiful-you see all the wildflowers, the beautiful meadow, the mountains in the background, right? :)

I watched the first four episodes last Saturday evening (yes I admit to spending Saturday evenings watching PBS and also admit to choosing that over any social event always) and I have enjoyed it as much as Downton. There are a couple more episodes on Sunday evenings into August until season one is finished  I have read there will be a second season (and I wish a third and fourth).

  1. You might also enjoy another PBS show called Crimson Field. It is set during World War I and follows the lives of several nurses in a French field hospital. I have enjoyed it so far.

  2. I have loved 'Poldark,' and hearing the reader above mention Crimson Field, I may check into that too. Listening to 'pride and prejudice' as we speak. Love some PBS! Glad to hear there are a few new episodes coming up in August.

  4. I LOVE Crimson Field. Couldn't quite into Poldark but maybe I should give it another shot. Sadly, though, I read online that Crimson Field and has been cancelled so there won't be another season. :-(

I highly recommend the BBC Series Doc Martin too! It's so sweet and family friendly-and set in a beautiful English coastal town. I think there are 7 or 8 seasons on Netflix.

I also enjoy Call the Midwife and Foyle's War on PBS.

  6. YES!!! I LOVE Poldark! So much so that I ordered the UK, full version, DVD set on Amazon because I just couldn't wait to see the rest of the first season. I've also have been enjoying Crimson Fields on PBS. Poldark has really won my heart though. I agree, it's the total package with great acting, cinematograpy, beautiful scenery, etc. Aidan Turner is very easy on the eyes too! ;-) He played Kili in The Hobbit.

  12. I love this show too! I get nerdy excited knowing that I have it to watch on Monday morning. Everyone else is off to work, summer school, and lessons and for an hour, it's MY time. I've heard that there is a big plot twist at the end of this season. All that know is that it had better have nothing to do with Demelza! I'm so happy to learn that there will be another season.

  13. I was a bit hesitant about Poldark after watching a 70's version of the book; this version is both new and improved! I really want to read the books.

  15. So it's clean? I was hesitant to watch because I thought (?) I heard it can be a little too steamy...?

    1. I would say there is only one scene in all six episodes that I would consider "steamy".
