Apple Bars

This a nice easy recipe-no mixer!  The bars were gone in seconds at my house.

1 cup sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup chopped apple (any kind)

For topping:
1 TBS white sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350.
Grease 9x9 inch pan.
Sift together dry flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Set aside.
In a large bowl mix together melted butter, brown sugar, and 1/2 cup white sugar with a wooden spoon till smooth.
Stir in egg and vanilla.
Blend in flour mixture until just combined, then add apples.
Spread the mixture evenly in pan.
In a small cup stir together sugar and cinnamon for topping and sprinkle evenly over top.

Bake for 25 minutes in oven.  Cool in pan and cut into squares.

Great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  1. These look delicious! Thanks for sharing the recipe. We are always looking for treats without chocolate as our daughter can't have it.

  2. I made your Caramel Corn last night - every piece was GONE! So good and so easy! I also make your Chicken Fettucine, Chile, and Feta dip on a regular basis! Thank you for the great recipes - I'll have to try this one. When I try a recipe of yours and tell the kids I got it from you, they all say "Oh! Mom's imaginary friend"! because I don't actually know you but think of you like a friend!!! lol!

  3. This is just the recipe I needed! I am taking a risk (I'm a reluctant entertainer) and having a new friend over this afternoon. I sat down to search for a quick recipe to make and I saw your post. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Oh yes yes, I can't wait to try this recipe with the famous apples from my state of Washington. And in my tiiiiiiny kitchen, I have no mixer. Perfect!

  5. Definitely need to try this - we still have so many apples left.

  6. Looks Great! I need to make 4 dozen bars for Grandparents Day at the boys' school. I will be making these. Thanks for sharing!
Also, I make your garlic bread spread all the time. We LOVE it!(I think that may just be an understatement!!!)

  7. Just made them and they are delicious! Although mine turned out pretty gooey - is that the right consistency? Your bars in the picture look more fully baked. Thanks.

  8. I made them today and my husband loved them (well, I did too!). Thanks for the great recipe.

  9. Just made them and they were a success... I'm a Portuguese Mum of four ( 1 boy three girls) living in Lisbon, and just discovered your blog . I'm loving it.
Thanks a lot for sharing your recipes.

By the way my in laws came to dinner and I had to share your recipe.

  10. Just decided to whip these up for dessert...my family thanks you!

  11. As soon as I saw this recipe I went straight to my kitchen and made them; so delicious! The only thing I added was 1/2 tsp more cinnamon and more apples which required more baking time; but overall so amazing! Thanks for sharing :)

  12. I made them tonight. Love them. Easy and good us my favorite.

  13. Just thought I'd let you know I made your reciped tonight in Dunedin, New Zealand using local organic apples. There won't be any left tomorrow so will be making it again - so easy and quick to do. Will be checking out your other recipes too although have trouble at times with diff measurements or ingredients particular to USA. Thanks, Catherine

  14. Oh yes I loved these and the best thing is a simple recipe that makes something simple delish. These are perfect to make on Saturdays for the grandchildren when they pop in after swimming lessons.

  15. I just made this recipe (doubled) this morning and it is delicious! I let my kids have a little taste and then put it in their lunches. They felt like I had made something special for them and I predict it'll be gone by tonight. Thanks for sharing this terrific (and easy) recipe!

  16. Thanks for share, Sarah! It sounds and looks delicious!! I will try it asap!

  17. Girls & I just ate these out of the oven....you're my new best friend. They are SO GOOD, I have to remind myself there was only enough for snack & breakfast and NO EXTRAS for me to have seconds.

Maybe I should make some more in the morning.
