Ordinary Days

His favorite job.

His favorite game. (Mine too.)

Not his favorite-two shots.
I am splitting up the FOUR (what???) shots he needs to get for kindergarten in 2 years, so we did two now.  These would be the first shots he would "remember".  I tried to prepare him.  That means I said they would hurt, but only for a second and then it would be over.  And he didn't even cry one bit, even for the second one.  He just wanted to know how soon he could take those band-aids off.

These two ride these big wheelsall day-race and crash and spin out.  One of the best purchases I've ever made.  I remember by little brothers doing the same-down the big gravely hill, no fear at all.

Andrew came home like this the last day of school from the carnival.

I am determined to have a beautiful fruit salad like this in my fridge all summer long.

Isaac is back from Ireland and loved every minute of it.  We are heading to college orientation this week and are busy catching up with all that dorm/meal plan paper work.  Oh I hope I can stay on top of this all with the baby coming!  I feel overwhelmed for sure and scared knowing how exhausted I will be in August hugely pregnant-I'm always exhausted in August anyways, after the busy summer with all the kids, without even growing a human being inside me.  I am trying to think of one day or one week at a time this summer and trust that I will have the mental and physical strength for it all!

  1. That fruit salad made me hungry! What a great idea to keep one around in the fridge. And thank you for the healthy lunch idea! I'm always looking for something besides a PBJ Sandwich. :)

  2. All looks like fun. Hearing you on the junk food & pregnancy. I inhaled it after 3 months with my 4boys. Bless your little one and his shots. Kell just had his recently and I had done a goodie bag to distract him. He didn't even look in it at all. I needed it more than him.

  3. I've been gone from blogging for a bit, but I'm back and so glad that I stopped by! Two things:

{1} The yummy fruit salad has me inspired

{2} I didn't know that you are pregnant! Congratulations!

Be encouraged in knowing that the Lord doesn't give us more than we can handle. And when it feels like He has, we can just lean on Him all the more!

    Blessings, Mary Frances

  4. I think you are made of strong stuff - you'll cope. And I am sure the family will help when you believe it is all getting too much.
    Love the photos as always.

  5. I think this will be your best August yet! Years from now you will proudly think of all you did that year that you took your oldest to college and had your sixth baby. Eat more cookies, they are just sooo darn good!

  7. Love the post, the fruit salad, the big wheels AND your idea to split up kindergarten shots. Those are tough. My 6 year old is still talking about them!!

One year, I had the brillant idea to take my oldest 2 to the doctor at the same time to get their school check ups. I did not factor in that one of them would be getting a bunch of shots for her upcoming kindergarten school year. She proceeded to throw up everywhere and when the nurse threw a bowl my way to ctach the vomit, she then spilled it all over me after it was almost full which then made my other child almost start vomitting. It was a doozey. My bright idea of taking 2 kids to the doc at the same time totally backfired...live and learn, huh? Needless to say, with my 4th child, we will be splitting up those shots.

I may be a slow learner but its never too late!!

  8. I just love the 4 year old stage for boys. Any time my 4 year old gets a "booboo" the only thing he can think of is how to avoid getting a bandaid! I love your posts. You are such an intentional mother and are an inspiration for me.

  9. So love your ordinary days posts Sarah! You'll do great - just remember to cut yourself some slack with the house work etc. - I remember a smart lady once told me something like, "It doesn't have to be beautiful to be perfect" ;)

My kids love Candy Land. It's a classic.

  11. I'm right there with you, my third son is due in September, but first I have to make it through June, July and August in the Texas heat! It exhausts me to think about that, so I'm just taking it one day at a time. :) You can do it!

  13. The salad looks delicious. I just brought home a bunch of fresh fruit. Now I just need to cut it up and put it together. Glad Isaac enjoyed his trip. The summer is already flying by. Katie has orientation this week too. And, we will meet the roommate and her parents as well for the first time. So excited!

  14. Oh boy! Don't get me started on those darn shot things. I think I cried more than they did when they had to get shots. I think my children are finally at the age of not needing any now.
That salad is a thing of beauty, but you have to have balance in all things. A little chocolate in there isn't going to hurt.

  15. Might I add....Patrick looks more like a little man each time I see him. I just know he is going to be a great helper with the new baby.

  16. I loved your honesty with eating; I've done the same with all 4 of mine! I made up for starving by eating everything after. I would still LOVE to see more on your healthy eating; I get in such a rut and then we live on beans and rice... My kids don't complain, but I get bored!

  17. I so enjoy your posts. Your encouragement and your ordinary days. They are SO what life at home is all about. That fruit salad looks delish. I'm gonna make myself one of those for our fridge too. Thanks for inspiring. ;)

  18. I just wanted to tell you how much I admire and look up to you. I have been following your blog for awhile now. I love reading it. Your family life is just perfect; not perfect as in without stress and problems, but perfect as in "it can't much better than this"; a little heaven on earth. Ever since middle school I've had this picture in my head of what I want my family to be like. Every time I read your blog I see that picture. I hope someday I can have what you have.
