Ordinary Days

A cape, a baseball mitt and duct taped soccer cleats.  What more does any boy need to go out into this world?

Our Pokemon (really really old Pokemon played with since my teens were tots) game.  Roll the ball and knock out the enemy.  Someone always wins and its not me, but I think the rules are made up as we go along?

I love Andrew's notes.  I also love that he changed Fritos to grapes.  Do you save all your kid-notes?  I do-I throw them in a little box.  My mom used to keep ours in her cook book.  They are still there.

  3. I always love your Ordinary Days posts! And can't wait for the teen post - I have a newly minted teen, although I thank GOD that this is my oldest as she is a sweetheart and a truly good girl. I just picked up a Dr. Lehman teen book and just the first few pages reinforce the act not react, and to LAUGH - be lighthearted about the whole thing. I need to adopt that for my new teen and the others! I thought it was interesting he defines teen all the way back to age 11 - yikes!

  4. I love that you save your kids notes! I wish I had been doing that, oh well. Teens- i can attest to the fact that what were once hormonally ridden beings become quite charming and wonderful adults. I now have a hard time remembering some very frustrating days. I have survived 5 so far and a few more to go. I found that nodding and listening are important, not problem solving. They don't want me to love their problems-just to listen. Enjoy! : )

  5. I love your posts and hearing about your kids. We could be kindred spirits if you actually knew me:). I will put this on my book list. At the moment I'm struggling through "a fortunate life". I'm half way through it. While I'm enjoying it, it's so slow I have a hard time picking it up. It's going to get better, right ?

  8. I read Heaven is Here in one day. I was even thrilled to meet the author and get my book signed. It reminds me of all the things I have to be grateful for.

  13. I've been reading Nei Nei's blog for years, but haven't bought her book since I've followed her so closely on her blog. I also had the chance to meet her a couple years ago...so inspiring! Can't wait for her to have her little girl.

I save all my daughter's cards and art work...they are 39 and 42 so I have a lot. Now I save cards and thank you notes from my grandchildren.

  14. I've read her blog for years as well and am excited to read her book. I hope that the proceeds from the book sales take care of all the medical expenses, house building and then some! They deserve it. BUT- have you read BLOOM by Kelle Hampton? It came out on Tuesday too. Her blog, Enjoying The Small Things is so inspiring and well written. You will absolutely love it as much, if not more than Nienie and Heaven is Here. Tissues for Bloom too! Her description of motherhood and the emotions is like no other. LOVE LOVE LOVE. (okay, I'm rambling...but I spent all of my daughter's afternoon nap reading it...so we pretty much did the same thing yesterday!)

  16. LOL This is by far one of my favorites of your posts. I have many of yours I consider favorites.
I had to laugh at your ds's U Owe me note and I was proud of you for your response!
The pay off will be when he is on his own and he calls to thank you for all you've done. =)

  20. Love your ordinary days....the duct-taped shoes - yes - it solves many a boys' problems! Teens...ah, well you know the grey hairs I have! Solace comes in knowing someone else is stumbling through the process. Gratification will only come when our teens have teens themselves! (or perhaps it's payback!)

  22. I think that's Lesson #1 for toddler too.

I can't wait to read Nie Nie's book!

And Snookie... ha ha ha! Horrible. But it kind of cracks me up she's your celebrity pregnancy partner. Do you remember the big celebrities that shared your pregnancies with you? I do.

  25. I loved her book too! Couldn't put it down. I saw that picture of Snookie and just immediately thought of you!! Who in the heck is snookie?! Do I dare google her? Hope you had a wonderful time!

  26. I love the notes my kids leave for me. Yours are hilarious.

I can't buy her book. I used to read her blog, but it got so...distasteful? narrow-minded? poorly written? I don't know, I wish her well. I guess I just feel she's disingenous.

  27. Classic: the other night at the end of year cross country banquet, our teenager told my husband, "I paid $10 for the coach's gift, and I'd like to be reimbursed."

Um, when are WE going to be reimbursed? They definitely don't get it!
