  1. Please don't ever stop bloggging, I would miss you. I love the pictures you take, I love your sense of humour and it helps me every day when I struggle with my kids (only 3 though, and not house keeping for me!)

  3. Oh my do I ever have a bone to pick with our neighborhood squirrels!! They've completely chewed up our pumpkins - being SO daring to come all the way up on our porch to do so! I've never had this happen before - CRAZY varmits!

  4. That is really strange! Hard to believe that those sweet, unasssuming little squirrels would have the smarts to cut through both of those ropes! I'm with your hubby...I'm thinking prankster that repeats himself. Love your blog, too! Hugs- Diana

  7. I have only been recently following your blog and I love it. I agree with Caroline, I would miss seeing the pictures that you take, the wittiness that you have in your blog.

  8. Do you know, my husband last night randomly mentioned that a squirrel in San Diego tested positive for the plague. The plague??!! That's still around? Apparently it's alive & well in the wild rodent population. (Speaking of the plague, have you read Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks? You would LOVE it.)

  9. That last photo is a stunner.
It is amazing what squirrels will chew through when they get it in their little rodent brains to do so. We lose more birdfeeders and birdhouses that way. I have watched them work together to chew through a "squirrel baffle" that didn't baffle our squirrels at all.
The middle rope cuts might have been teens. But the top ones? Definitely blame the fuzzytails. And at least they waited until fall.

  13. Squirrel!! ... It's just fun to exclaim that. Sorry.

I hope our squirrels are dumber than yours. We would have one heartbroken toddler if we came out to find the swing lobbed off like that.

  14. I love that poem. I can't help but say it each time I swing a child. I am sure my kids think I am silly...but I love that POEM!!

  16. It's payback for the "dead squirrel in the street" picture. Which I totally laughed at because my kids have a whole theory on small rodents feeling the need to run when the portal is open.

  17. :-)
    ......
You have to ask neighbors if it happened to them something similar. If not, then probably you have some "friends" somewhere around you, just wanting to say "hello!" from time to time, in a specific way.
    Have a nice week-end!
    Enjoy the retreat!

  18. If you happen to have a lot of squirrels then I bet it is them. That or RATcoons. I don't like either of them. You can put the swing back up and try putting a ton of hot sauce on the rope, or even rub a jalapeno pepper on the rope, mabe a habanero. Give them a little something to think about.
I love the look of Patrick's eyes in that Uh oh too high photo.

  21. We had a similar problem with ropes being chewed when I was little. My parents solved it by putting chain at the top by the branch for a few feet and tying the rope to that. Then they covered the chain in barbed wire. Squirrels will avoid it, then.
