September

I love September.
I love August too, because it's a time of new beginnings.  There is nothing I don't like about the start of school, and before you think I'm being funny, I'll tell you as a child I loved it too.

August is exciting and crazy and sometimes hard...saying goodbye to summer, and hello to a new routine and all the hoopla that goes with that.
September I settle in.
And settle down.
And enjoy the quiet.

I love taking walks with Patrick and it's just SO beautiful out.
Everytime I'm outside I just feel so grateful for my life and how blessed I am and how lucky I am to have a loving husband and five children who I hope feel at home everytime they walk in that door.

The sun is shining, the school busses are roaring by, leaves are crunching, there's a quiet breeze and a stillness in the air.
I'd make September last forever if I could.

  1. I agree with you. Some people associate spring with "new" but for me it's always September/fall and the excitement of something new.. new teacher, new friends, new school, new school clothes, new pencils... first for me and then as my children grew.

  2. I love spring, all that fresh energy and all, but I do get a rush of excitement in September too. The leaves where I live have yet to start turning colour and start crunching underfoot, and there's still a lot of warmth in the air (though I notice a slight transition into autumn in the early mornings), but love it when it happens later in the month. Happy September!

  3. I so agree!!
I have always loved the newness of a brand new school year, as a child, a teacher, and now as a mom. Fall is my favorite time of year.
    Enjoy the day

  4. I very much agree! There is always something refreshing when that first crisp air hits your face in the morning.... but Kansas is still in the high 80s. Oh well, our time will come.

  6. I have been reading your blog for about 8 months and I really enjoy the calmness and peace that come through your photos and writing. Thank you so much!
I have no photo skills myself and I appreciate photos that have just enough empty space in them to frame the picture and enough clarity to pull you in.
For instance, the picture of the flowers in the sunlight at your sink today..I stared at that for 15 seconds, not seeing the dishes at all! Thank you again!

  8. Don't you love how the air changes from the hot muggy summer to clean, crisp fall? It's probably my favorite season. Spring is glorious because it's so stinking cold and gloomy here for a LONG time.. I love the green, and I love color.

  11. Me too! Definitely my favorite, but this year I am getting used to my oldest being in school all day, so I am taking more time to warm up to it.
I made the slow cooker chicken and dumplings recipe from your side bar and it was fantastic! Thanks for the recipe..

  12. I am with you. It is still hot here in NC, but I adore Fall. This post made me wistful for crunchy autumn days which I know are just around the corner.

  13. I was always a summer girl before moving to the States, but now September is my month... in fact I love fall... I love the celebration of it here. It really is the most beautiful time of the year! In the UK it went by without even a thought. Hard to think that now! Have a great weekend. Lx

  21. Agreed....! Something about getting back to routine or "normal" makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Can't wait to slip into a cozy sweater and sit on the porch with a hot mug of mulled cider and just admire the flaming colors of the leaves in my front yard. (Love your new header, btw!)
