Remember we live in a culture that thinks if you don't throw your child a big birthday party you must be the worst mom ever...if your house doesn't look like one of those edited images on Instagram you must not have your act together...if your baby isn't speaking in full sentences by the time they are 18 months old you didn't stimulate them enough...if your teen isn't begging for service hours and getting the best scores and walking a straight line and on every team imaginable you've failed somehow.
It is okay to go against the grain of our culture while doing the hardest job imaginable - mothering many children. You are not failing when you do so, you are creating a health family life for everyone, including yourself.

Nothing beats the classic cookie recipes I bake weekly. The old-fashioned Grandma recipes passed down for generations. I have one of my favorites-classic snickerdoodles-up on my blog today.

I think one of the reasons got into the habit of baking so much was because it gave me something to do with kids and a sense of accomplishment at the same time. My mom did the same. And my grandma must have also because she always had cookies in her cookie jar. A perfect mom/kid activity that killed a couple hours of a slow afternoon.

What a beautiful weekend to make a First Communion! Janey has been waiting for this event for years. She wore her big sister's dress, and tried it on multiple times every year since she started school a couple years ago. I'm so proud of her. She is a kind and tender and sweet soul but can hold her own as the youngest of six. She loves Jesus, did such a good job at learning her prayers, and is just an incredible joy to raise.

This sweet little baby is making her First Communion this weekend and couldn't be more excited-I swear she's been talking about this for years. She is wearing her older sister's dress and veil which fit her perfectly.

Scrubbed this pretty place today- hosed it all down (wow is there some major pollen this year-I'm sorry for all those that have spring allergies!) including the indoor/outdoor rugs. A perfect windy sunny warm day for porch cleaning! Let's just hope there is no more snow and summer is here to stay. Or spring or whatever is not winter. I can't wait to share some good books I've been reading - I've also been busy with blog design things and some fun projects and goals for the future.

I've been reading more and trying to stay in a strong intentional living - slow paced, thoughtful, healing, small accomplishments, and enjoying a daily routine. 🌱
Wake up early, make beds, get the kids to school, laundry, dinner prep, cleaning, appts, errands, hopefully soon blogging, painting, writing, (now that I can use my wrist without pain) and then the day is almost over, and homework, sports, dinner, bedtime. The days fly by even with the intention of a slow pace.

Nothing pretty, flashy, or spectacular. Just an ordinary Monday morning breakfast counter after the kids leave for school. Because ordinary gets the short hand in our culture but really it's extra special.
It's a symbol of unselfishness, contentment, prudence and gratitude. There is a certain peace about the ordinary. It's the opposite of temporary-it holds the joy of contentment and gratitude and prudence all in one hand. It's lends itself toward peace, and a settling in, not a constant search for more or less or anything. Ordinary is authentic and good enough- in short it's a gem in disguise. 🍃

I love my home and I hope you do also. With all the imperfections and maintenance it requires, when I pull up and walk in I want to stay, to relax, to feel safe, for daily life to be easy, and to care for "home". I want simplicity, ease, convenience. To me when my home is simple, without being filled to the brim of things that just take up space I love it best. I hope if you've participated fully or even partially as time allowed in 40 Bags in 40 Days you've found that joy and pride in your home. I plan to share more little challenges and tips as the year proceeds to trouble shoot areas and keep maintenance effortless and the house love flowing. Daily life in our homes should bring us joy and ease while we care for our families, we should be thoughtful stewards of our money and of our time and simple living is the answer to that.

I think this is one of the best things about the 4

I think this is one of the best things about the 40 Bag decluttering process. When I know what I have and have removed all that I don't, it cultivates more discretion and caution about what I bring back in. I think there is also some realization of how much money is wasted on fads, or thoughtless purchases. It's quite eye-opening. I've become so much more careful, and find we all take better care of things, as do my children.
