Isn’t he so cute? or should I say ‘Isn’t she so cute?’

That is a little photo of our baby.

Our sixth.

I am almost 18 weeks pregnant and due on August 20th.

We will find out then if he or she is the correct pronoun.

We are over-the-moon happy.

Dear Sarah I am ao happy for you!
You have not been very active in the blog and now I know the explanation for it! I love every single post here! Can't wait to hear about the sex of the baby! Congratulations to you and the whole family! How does it feel sending one to college and having a new baby arriving almost the same time??

Congratulations! I just want to let you know that I really love what you have to say. I love when you tell it like it is. Your prior post was great and makes me feel much better about my own parenting techniques. As my children grow older I find myself saying no more often than not to all the many things that take me away from them (even those things that are good) because, like you said, bottom line is they need me. You should read this talk from one of my church leaders. It really puts things in perspective and I think you'll like it: http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2007/10/good-better-best?lang=eng&query=good+better+best

Thanks for sharing all your thoughts with us random, unknown to you, mothers out there.

My heartfelt congratulations. And just let me tell you, having a baby in your 40s is hard. But so worth it.

I faithfully read your blog but NEVER comment. Couldn't resist. I'm 29 weeks pregnant, 37 years old and been struggling to get pregnant for almost 4 years. Therefore, my older two will be 6 and 8 when this baby is born. I was a little worried about the 'gap' – as it seems everyone's family has the perfect 2,4,6,8 spread these days!! I've read your post about having kids far apart in ages many times and it had been such an encouragement! I only hope we can have at least 1 more after this.
Congratulations! Blessings to you, your family and the new little baby!!

    WHAAAAAAT?!!!

I am almost as shocked as when I found out I was having my fifth!! (He just turned 3 months)

I don't know if you remember but a couple of years ago I emailed you about having a fifth. And you were so kind and emailed me back about how much you loved it and you wished you could have one more but it wasn't in the cards. Well, well, well! I am so glad everything is ok and I hope your feeling well!

I am so happy for you!!!!! Didn't it make sending Patrick off to pre-school less devastating? (I know because I felt the same way when I sent Connor off) It is so different having them apart.

Now that I read this post (by the way your blog is my homepage on my computer and I am pretty sure that my husband is going to ban me from the computer once he finds out) I am going to have to listen to my inner voice that keeps telling me not to get rid of all my little girl clothes that I have been packing up. Maybe just wait and see…

Please be sure to write a post about telling the kids! I would love to know what their/Jeff's reaction was!

I can't believe you will be literally sending one "off" as a new one comes! I am already am getting teared up thinking about it. No worries, we will all be here to support you!!

    Sorry so long…just so excited!!!

    Congratulations!

Congratulations, Sarah!! I too noticed the "…raised five kids so far," comment in yesterday's post as well as the one about "adding another baby" and I wondered if you were expecting or if I was reading into things too much.

I'd love you to dish on all the details–whether this is a surprise pregnancy or carefully planned, and whether it has been difficult emotionally considering your history–but I know these things can be very private and its really none of my business, so I won't ask you to declare all the details. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a similar pregnancy history (though my losses were much earlier than yours), and though I do have 4 children and feel like we're done in many ways (medical, emotional, family dynamic, etc), my "mommy heart will always long for another. ๐Ÿ™‚

Congratulations! If ever there is a Mom who should have more, it is you! I'm a few weeks ahead of you and am expecting at the beginning of July, but this will only be #2 for us. I have a boy the same age as your youngest and have enjoyed the fact that you have mentioned particular toddler stages at the same time that I've been experiencing them. How fun that this will continue…!

No way! No way! No way!!!!!! I am so excited for you. I've been a faithful reader of yours for over 3 years now and Patrick is almost the exact same age as my oldest. I have her, another girl and I am due just a few weeks ahead of you. It will be fun to have virtual baby friends again. Not that they will ever know or care who one another is, but I love watching and learning from a much more seasoned mother while I am just figuring it all out.

I had always just figured you were done, not that you were "done" because you've mentioned that some people know when they are done and some never feel like they are done having children and I always knew deep down you were in the latter camp. I think I am too. But, it just gets harder to conceive as we age (and how sad is it that our bodies decide we are too old for kids and 35, 40, 45…whatever). I'm sure it's with good reason because a 60 year old chasing a toddler sounds exhausting, but I certainly don't think I will feel old when I'm 40. I hope all goes well. I'm over the moon happy FOR you. What a blessing!!!

When my last baby was born. His birthday was on July 15th. Then, on July 25th, our daughter turned 18.

    It was beautiful.
    Wonderful.
    Amazing.

    With age comes wisdom…
But our requirement for good sleep increases as well. ;o)

This baby is such a blessing and will be a a wonderful gift to add to your family.

And thankfully, with age comes the knowledge that yes, they do indeed grow up, and quite quickly.
So…I know that you will hold on tight and absorb every.single.moment with this new little one.

Best wishes to you and your family. And of course Gods perfect timing!

Thinking that I'd get tips from you about how to deal with letting that special part of life go. Now instead today I've found myself visiting that place in the back of my mind that says, "don't let it go yet – have one more." Ha ha. There is just nothing like welcoming a family member into this world is there? Congrats to you.

There are currently 265 comments here so you'll probably never see this question, but I'm curious: what does your husband do? You have such a large family, all in private school, in an expensive part of the country, and you have a beautiful house and vacation at the beach each year.

You do a great job explaining what you don't do (volunteering, etc.) in order to mother five children, but I always wonder how you can afford it. Private info, I know.

As a fairly new mother, I would love to hear in a future post perhaps how you have evolved as a mother over the years. Were you the same kind of mother when Isaac was born as you are today or were there some big lessons you had to learn to bring you where you now (with your wonderful mothering skills!). I hope that makes sense. I look up to you so much and admire you as a fellow mother. I would love to know what life was like for you when you only had children who were not yet school age (and didn't have those years of experience under your belt)?

    God bless you!!

Sarah..I didn't expect this post. Congratulations!!! You are an inspiration to all of us in addition to us 40+ old wanting to add to our families. I am 40 and want a second child after a miscarriage 6 months ago. I am over the moon with you to be a virtual Auntie! Even more happy for someone who actually parents their children and proud to be a homemaker. This is the second best news from a blogger this week. Katie at Bower Power just announced her pregnancy (I think she follows your blog). Are you going to fill us in on the details such as..how did you find out your were pregnant, how did you tell Jeff and the kids? Were you planning for some time now to have more children? Share what you are comfortable with but us readers would like to know.

WOW! I seriously wasn't sure if I was reading this news correctly and then I had to double-check which blog I was reading (I usually read posts from the Google Reader) and then I finally had to read the comments to see if this news was really true and not an early April Fools joke! ๐Ÿ™‚ And now I can't wipe the grin from my face! In all seriousness, you don't know me from Adam either but I just had to tell you that this news seriously made my day and I am so so so happy for you and your family. Especially because I know how much you love children and because you are such a good mother and if anyone should have 6 kids it's you! I love your blog and relish the "advice" you are always providing. Time and again you have really made me think and I like to think you are making me a better mother (I only have 1 son and 1 daughter on the way, so far :-)). CONGRATULATIONS!!

Congrats! I read this last night on my phone, then had a dream about you and your whole family. I dreamt you invited me over to hang out (you lived next door to me) and the first words out my mouth were "I'm pregnant too!" (I am, but only 7 weeks). You taught me how to harden butterflies by painting their wings with rubber cement then you put them on your pizza! It was crazy! There's much more to it but you know how dreams can be….hard to explain. Anyway, just wanted to stop and comment since I hardy ever do these days. I am so thrilled for you and your family. You are due the same time as my sister. What a lovely year for babies!

I've been reading more and trying to stay in a strong intentional living - slow paced, thoughtful, healing, small accomplishments, and enjoying a daily routine. ๐ŸŒฑ
Wake up early, make beds, get the kids to school, laundry, dinner prep, cleaning, appts, errands, hopefully soon blogging, painting, writing, (now that I can use my wrist without pain) and then the day is almost over, and homework, sports, dinner, bedtime. The days fly by even with the intention of a slow pace.
Nothing pretty, flashy, or spectacular. Just an o Nothing pretty, flashy, or spectacular. Just an ordinary Monday morning breakfast counter after the kids leave for school. Because ordinary gets the short hand in our culture but really it's extra special.
It's a symbol of unselfishness, contentment, prudence and gratitude. There is a certain peace about the ordinary. It's the opposite of temporary-it holds the joy of contentment and gratitude and prudence all in one hand. It's lends itself toward peace, and a settling in, not a constant search for more or less or anything. Ordinary is authentic and good enough- in short it's a gem in disguise. ๐Ÿƒ
I love my home and I hope you do also. With all t I love my home and I hope you do also. With all the imperfections and maintenance it requires, when I pull up and walk in I want to stay, to relax, to feel safe, for daily life to be easy, and to care for "home". I want simplicity, ease, convenience. To me when my home is simple, without being filled to the brim of things that just take up space I love it best. I hope if you've participated fully or even partially as time allowed in 40 Bags in 40 Days you've found that joy and pride in your home. I plan to share more little challenges and tips as the year proceeds to trouble shoot areas and keep maintenance effortless and the house love flowing. Daily life in our homes should bring us joy and ease while we care for our families, we should be thoughtful stewards of our money and of our time and simple living is the answer to that.
Thank you for participating! ๐Ÿก
I think this is one of the best things about the 4 I think this is one of the best things about the 40 Bag decluttering process. When I know what I have and have removed all that I don't, it cultivates more discretion and caution about what I bring back in. I think there is also some realization of how much money is wasted on fads, or thoughtless purchases. It's quite eye-opening. I've become so much more careful, and find we all take better care of things, as do my children.

It's not a hard equation, all it takes is ruthless purging-and not just little things but larger items also. Functional furniture is the key and very few decorative pieces especially when children are in the home, makes life so much easier.

I agree! I love purging, cleaning and organizing a space and then going back later that day just to get that wonderful sense of accomplishment. It makes such a difference!
๐Ÿƒ
A lighter, fresher, calmer home is the result of de-cluttering. I even had a participant who had been planning on listing her home, start 40 Days just to get her house ready to sell, and then was so ruthless in the process and also thrilled by the results that they decided to stay put in what seemed like a new home to them. What a savings of time, money and energy.

Tips For Shared Kids Rooms- This bedroom has seen Tips For Shared Kids Rooms-
This bedroom has seen every configuration possible. With kids spread out 18 years apart, I've had to be creative over the years-which I think is the key to sharing rooms. It is all possible-I consider it a rare luxury and privilege to not have to share a room although I know that is not the norm today.
๐Ÿƒ
I like to create a simple look with white furniture (this ends up making room transitions easier also when moving someone out and someone else in.) I also like to match bedspreads for a cohesive look.
๐Ÿƒ
Clip on bed lights save space.
๐Ÿƒ
A simple shared book shelf can hold a child's special books and knick knacks and if necessary can be assigned per shelf.
๐Ÿƒ
When my kids were younger I had my dad build me a large wooden roll out box for under each bed. This held each child's toys.
๐Ÿƒ
All clothes are kept in a closet instead of dressers to save space.
I feel like I bailed on everyone following 40 Bags I feel like I bailed on everyone following 40 Bags progress and tips. My excuse is the stomach flu ravaging us all here in the last week with me being the last to fall and the slowest to recover. On top of that the weekend before I tried to roller blade (don't even ask how many steps I made it) and majorly bit it. Thankfully I think I just sprained my arm. So I've been using one arm for nursing sick children back to health, and doing whatever cleaning and cooking and straightening I can do. Alas, last week was a wash. We have two weeks to go. I'd like to continue and end on a high note. How about you? Even a little de-cluttering counts! Spring is in the air and I can't wait to throw open my windows and let fresh clean air circulate through my fresh clean orderly home. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒฑ
