Ordinary Days

A busy evening.

Abbey is so strong from crew.  I really thought that crew would be a sort of wimpy sport till I saw and heard what they have to do every day.  What a workout.  She rows miles and miles either on the boat or on a machine called an erg (I think that’s what it’s called?).  And then she comes home and eats like a horse.

Have you decided on Halloween costumes yet?  I bought the cutest dinosaur costume for Patrick.  Yes, I BOUGHT, not made.  I don’t think I could pull off dinosaur sewing.  Andrew thought he wanted to be this Pokemon trainer above and thank goodness I knew better to start working on it, because of course he changed his mind after a week.

This was last year, after Jeff’s first marathon.  I am reminded of this because our good friend Dave just ran his first and what an accomplishment that is.  I remember, as a wife, thinking, OK this is over, now no more 2 hour runs!  Dave and his wife have 6 children and I am sure his wife is thinking the same thing. Jeff hasn’t run one since, but I have a feeling he will again.

Found this in the garage where the neighbor kids and Andrew play.  Isn’t that cute?

Last year I noticed 1/2 of my Little People were missing.  I searched high and low for those poor guys and couldn’t find them anywhere.  SOMEONE put them in the Quirkle game, and there they were all year long.  Reunited at last.

I have to recover my kitchen chairs that are thread-bare and stained.  Why is it becoming more and more difficult for me to make one simple decision?  I would go with the same checked pattern, but it has long been discontinued.  How boring would that be?  Thank goodness I can’t.  That is just one choice above and it doesn’t really match my kitchen but isn’t it pretty?

That fabric is really pretty. No matter what fabric you choose I have to tell you about the most unbelievable stain proofing I have found. I don't remember how I discovered this product, but I know I bought it on-line. It is called DCS Formula 19. Usually boat supply on-line suppliers carry it. (whenever I need to re-order, I google it). It is like scotch guard, but unbelievably better. I used it on a chair that is a light blue plaid with cream background. My 2 year old has smeared chocolate, orange popsicle and other awful things on it in the past year. They all come off with just a wet paper towel. Even dirt just wipes right off. With 4 kids there is a lot of dirt in this house! I never put a new fabric covered item in my house now without spraying it with this stuff. Anyway, you've given some much great advice to me via your blog. Thought I would share this with you.

The fabric is pretty and not having everything match adds a bit of charm- at least that is what I think. 🙂 I've given up on fabric padded chairs and have gone all wood. Fabric doesn't last long with a 5, 3, and 2 year old, then again, I know that you already know that!

    Happy Wednesday from Kansas!

Jo Ann Fabrics has some nice chenille brown & cream zebra print… I love it so much I wish could think of something to make with it. Zebra print in the kitchen is the only way to go. 🙂

We just moved to Detroit from Arkansas only 5 months ago! What a change! Haha! : ) We see "Crew" practice all the time in the Detroit River and I stand amazed. I'm 30 years old and have never seen a rowing team- ever! We just don't have that down south. : ) I pray we can survive this first winter. In Arkansas we get.. umm 7 inches of snow all year long. Yikes!

Love Little People! We think the ones at my parents' house faced their fate years ago to one of my dad's black trash bag purges! (Much to my mother's – and my siblings and my – dismay!)

I've been following your blog for a little while now so I thought I'd say Hi!
I was a rower in high school and it is HARD. Go Abby!! And it consumes your whole life:)
Also, I noticed the "catholic college night" Have you guys looked at University of Dallas? Its a small catholic college in Dallas(obviously:) with amazing academics and a strong foundation in liberal arts. Its where I went and loved every moment of it. Also, every student spends a semester in Rome.
Anyways, love your blog. Thanks for putting things into perspective.

Hi Sarah! Thanks for coming by and visiting my blog. Its been so much fun!! I love writing, photographing and cooking and then blogging about it. I have my 2 new blogs right now and I may have to condense them at some point because its a lot of work.

Don't you just love those ordinary days? Your going to look back on this record that you have kept (your blog) and be so happy that you posted about ordinary, everyday happenings, not just the important stuff, but the everyday life. The simple nuances of life.

I think that fabric is great! Go for it. Matchy matchy is out!

I see Pendragon on your kid's bookshelf, btw, I loved that series 🙂 Did you read it as well?

I see your hubby is a runner!! hmmm… maybe there is a run some time in your future? You can come out here and start on the amazing trails I run on 🙂 Cheers!

I'm a new blog follower, and only commented once before. I am not sure where you live geographically, but I noticed the Michigan shirt a son was wearing. My husband and I are Michigan State alumni, BUT I suppose I'll continue following your blog! Woohoo…love your family and home!

This is random, but since I saw the Qwirkle game could you tell me what some of the most played games are in your house? I would love to get some new games for my 6 year old for Christmas. Thanks! Traci
