How sweet! My daughter tried on my wedding dress on a snow day last year. So fun! Then she asked me to try it on…..sure didn't fit like it did on my wedding day!

    Love, love, love snow days!

How fun! I think there is just something about a girl and a wedding dress, it doesn't matter what age she is, it is just special! My dress is just hanging in our closet. I do have it in the "cover" it came in, but it hasn't been cleaned or "preserved" like some. Just ready for my girls to dive into someday!

Just beautiful! Your wedding gown looks similar to mine from 25 years ago! Ahhhh, such wonderful memories. I look forward to the day my daughter wants to try my gown on (she's only 8). Wouldn't it be fun to post our wedding pictures?

sarah, this is very sweet. i actually think your dress is still beautiful! it has some elements of the time but in a casual way so it doesn't seem dated. it is a gorgeous dress and having pictures of your daughter in it is priceless. 🙂

How sweet! I rented my dress, so I don't even have it for my little one to reject! Saved us a bunch of money though

    Sweet!

I donated my wedding dress to a charity for women who have breast cancer. I know some woman will look beautiful in it. 🙂

What a great way to spend a snow day!

OH! And my 4 year old really enjoys looking at our wedding photos – he's informed me that he wants the girl he marries someday to wear my wedding dress – we'll see how that goes over! HA!

At least looking at your dress isn't horrifying. I like it. Unlike when Heidi tried my dress on in December (pics on my blog), and it was so scary that the sleeves almost took flight themselves. Ah, 1989. It was a good year . . .

how true – what children get into during multiple snow days- my daughter has been doing exactly what you stated- high shelf-back of closet scavenging. If we are lucky – we will uncover some "lost" items.

Ahhh yes, our girls are always there to remind us how thin we "used to be". She does look cute trying it on though.

Beautiful dress and daughter. I have my dress, still boxed after almost 44 years and my daughter's, also boxed after almost ten years, on the same shelf. I know my daughter's don't want my dress since they both had there own, but I just can't seem to get rid of it. Am I silly or just very sentimental?

Such a beautiful dress! Love the bow on the back, it reminds me of my dress that I wore almost 19 years ago. I should take it out and let my daughters try it on ~ it sure wouldn't fit me after five kids (no excuse!) and just a few pounds 🙂

    Lovely girl, lovely dress.

My dress is hanging in the back of my closet and I keep expecting my oldest daughter to want to try it on. Not yet.

I tried on my mom's dress when I got engaged. It wasn't for me, but I ended up wearing her veil.

How precious is that! Umm remove the sleeves and the bow and you have a very timeless look. She may not want to count that dress out just yet. Plus when I was her age I swore I was wearing a dress just like princess Diana. Not what I ended up with haha! How fun that you let her play dress up in it. These pictures are timeless.

and then by the time i got married….3 years later….it was too small! crazy.

I don't think that my wedding dress will ever see the light of day again. Can't imagine a daughter-in-law to-be asking for it but I have a fantasy that one of my boys will marry an orphan and I will get to be the MOTB.

love this! i have so many memories putting on my mom's old clothes…i don't have children (yet!), but i save things (like shoes, jewelry, and dated clothing) hoping that i'll have a little girl who pulls them out and puts them on to play dress up. brought tears to my eyes!

Love this post, Sarah! It brought back favorite memories. I remember trying on my Mom's wedding dress when I was little. She married in the 50's, and had the most gorgeous, girly, lacy dress. She was tiny (still is) and looked like a porcelain doll. My sister wore it for her wedding, and the dress needed a little altering (she was tinier, believe it or not). When they took it to the dressmaker, the woman freaked out–turns out the lace on my Mom's $35 dress is now highly-sought after vintage, and would run for $500/yard. Can you believe it?

Just goes to show, bum bows may be highly-sought after vintage items in 10-15 years, and Abbey will be thrilled to wear your dress! (But don't bet the farm on bum bows.)
