My favorite holiday is just around the corner- New Years Day. I love fresh starts, new beginnings, fun plans, and some good old organization. I have some charts printed out, and a new binder purchased and my 2013 calendar hanging. I'm hoping for some quiet time to reflect and put together some great ideas I have in my head. I am picturing the snow gently falling, my new candle burning, and me at the kitchen table with my fresh pencils while the kids play with their Christmas toys and the baby naps. In reality, it might be quite a different scenario, but I'm going to set my sights high.

Aaaahhhh... I love a peaceful New Year's Day and all of the anticipation and hope of a fresh start! This will be my first New Year as a mother; I am sure it will be full of adventure. Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteWe took our tree down yesterday. It had to go...I just needed my home to go back to normal especially with all the new toys and such all about! I am getting ready for the new year and a fresh start. I have made my one word resolution and I am ready!
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that Christmas decorations seem so stale the minute the day is over? I'm sure my kids are thrilled that the rest of their vacation will be spent dejunking :)

ReplyDeleteOur neighbors had their tree on the curb at 10:30 Christmas morning. We got a kick out of it for sure . Our tree is still up and the Christmas clutter it driving me crazy. And oddly, all this stuff is making me want to buy things. I think I need my house back too!

ReplyDeleteI am ready to ditch the tree now as well. I love fresh starts and next year is going to be a big challenge for me as I head off to start a new life in a new country but the bonus is I get to be close to my family :)
ReplyDeleteI'm one to un-decorate the day after Christmas too. I can't take the clutter. Unfortunately, half my family is sick so I'm holding off on taking down the tree. It's making me a bit batty, but we're getting snow tomorrow and I think I'll start on my cleaning then. Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteMine will all come down this weekend (usually takes a few days) and then the organization begins!
We don't take down the decorations until the Feast of the Epiphany which is on 6 January 2013 I couldn't bear to take them down before that.
ReplyDeleteWhile I understand the clutter issue really really I do, it makes me sad that so many of us conform to secular society's schedule.
ReplyDeleteThe 12 days of Christmas starts after - not before. It is like we all follow the "shopping" season!
I say that as a hyprocrite as I can only wait until new years myself - still makes me sad.
I take ours down the day after Christmas. I love the decorations, but I love the fresh, clean feeling when they are all packed away. I usually find a few I missed and have to tuck them in the tubs, but I try. And I love New Year's for the same reason you do. A fresh start!
ReplyDeleteBah Humbug! I leave my tree up till Little Christmas - Jan 6. But I also don't start decorating till at least the 1st week of December, maybe the 2nd, so it hasn't been up that long - definitely less than a month here. To me the real Christmas season is from the saturday before xmas eve (we host a party every year on that day) to - Jan 6.
ReplyDeleteUsually, I would be right there with you on the fresh start and organizing things. I wouldn't say it is my "favorite" holiday though. But, this year, I am just feeling out of sorts and kind of sad and motionless. Hope I can find some mental oomph before the New Year.

Yay for mechanical pencils, new calendars, workouts with weights, and Christmas decorations out of the way. I hear you on the clutter meter. We got all the kids to square away their things today and I ALMOST got the tree and other decorations down but didn't happen. Will do it tomorrow or Monday.

ReplyDeleteOh I love the 12 Days of Christmas! I feel like I can enjoy my decorations with no pressure. I do slowly and quietly put away the clutter-y decorations like Santa hats, but we leave our tree up and our nativity out to enjoy, and have a little party on Epiphany.

ReplyDeleteCount me in as someone who leaves decorations up until Epiphany. I too get a little itchy to start putting things away, but then I purposely start decorating later than most and remember that this is still the Christmas season in the church year.

I love the fresh start of the New Year too! I love decorating for Christmas and then I love getting the house back to normal afterwards too! Saw you have a weights book in your new year pile. I discovered awesome home workout videos after having kids and have never turned back. Love being able to get it done whenever it works out and not have to worry about going anywhere. Love your blog!
