Paint Colors In My House

I thought I'd copy my organized friend Melissa on this post.  One of the questions I get asked often is about paint colors I've used in my home.  I'm going to save this up in my House Love tabs for reference, and maybe I'll also save myself some exercise walking up my rickety attic steps to check again and again when readers ask.

Living Room and Kitchen
Sherwin Williams
Believable Buff (6120)
My favorite color ever...a warm light tan with a hint of gold.

Master Bedroom and Bathroom
A little more grey than the living room and kitchen, but close.
This is a custom mix...the formula is:

Dining Room
Valspar
Shallow Tide
Very light greenish, grayish, bluish.  I love this color!
(A tutorial on how I painted my dining room set black here.)

Abbey's Room
Sherwin Williams
Jetstream
As bright as I'll go in my house- a not-obnoxious turquoise.

Foyer
Valspar
Drumskin
Lighter shade than the living room and kitchen.  A warm neutral.

Boys' Rooms
Sherwin Williams
Rarified Air 6525
A very very very light blue.

One of my favorite sites to find great paint colors in REAL LIFE houses (not fancy crazy-expensive magazine-styled rooms) is a blog called
I could spend hours on this site...beware, you'll want to whip out the paint brushes.  It's also great to glean some great copy-catter decorating ideas from since once again these are real rooms from real houses-you know, like the kind we all live in.

  4. We used all Sherwin Williams paints when we repainted a couple years ago...and chose all beachy/neutral colors. You helped me decide on the dining room colors (do you remember that?) and we ended up choosing Yarmouth Blue. My favorite color ever!!

  10. Thank you so much for your link to the favorite colors blog! I think that's going to be really useful! We are in the midst of repainting everything and choosing colors is by far the hardest part for me!

I really love how light and bright your house is. I think your foyer color is my favorite! I struggle with deciding how MANY colors you can have in your home. How much is too much? I like variety, but I don't want my house to look like a Rubik's cube!

  11. OH Sarah! Thank you so much for this post. I love the colors you have chosen throughout your beautiful home. I have been wanting to do so painting in my home too. Since as you know it is the least expensive way to "redecorate" ;).
Also, I just absolutely adore your blog. You are a true inspiration. God bless you!
    Blessings,

  15. Love your home and love those paint colors! Your blog is one of my favorites!

Question: Where did you find those curtains hanging in the first pics labeled your Living Room?

I need some neutral curtains and have been meaning to hang curtains in my home for at least 4 years! Oops! I find curtains tough to decide on!

Any curtain tips you would mind sharing after you paint color posts! :)
