Patrick has been SO excited that I signed him up for a spring soccer program. He has sat on the side lines forever. The only mistake I made was telling him about 4 weeks ago that he'll play soccer "in the spring". He has asked me every single wingle day, "Is is spring yet?"
Finally the time has come! He loved it.
Bought this lotion from a shop in Seaside and it smells like soap and the beach combined. A perfect scent. It makes me happy.
Making peanut butter cookies.
He was so proud of his rolling capabilities. And yes, I fixed them.
We also set up the train table.
I bleached my dish towels. They needed it bad;y. They look all nice and neat now.
Is that weird it makes me happy to have super white nice and neat matching dish towels? I think it is.
Patrick and Andrew picked these for me.
Abbey has two "big sis's" on the rowing team and they buy little gifts for each other for the regatta's. I put these together from the dollar store. It was fun. (Filled with candy and silly string and nail polish and a cute pad of paper.) Maybe it won't be as fun when I do it for the next four weekends.
I stopped and smelled the flowers.
I made my favorite salsa. I am feeling totally better food-wise. Finally. The sunshine helps I think.
We had started a TV habit when I was sick. It makes me feel awful when my kids watch TV, like their brains are getting fried. So we did a Cold Turkey TV Weaning. Our vacation helped kick it off, but once we got home we (Patrick) had some struggles. We made it through our first week and I won't say it was easy but it is worth it for my peace of mind not to have that darn thing on at all. This is his pouting face when I say no way.
Making lots of cookies (this time sugar cookies) helped distract from Dora cravings.
As did a little nap. I made a play list of kid's tunes and he thinks he's such a big kid listening to his (my) Ipod.
I am showing. Like I'm 30 weeks. Except I'm 24. I think it's the total lack of stomach muscles I started with. Or a giant baby. (There is only one in there, I know that for sure.)
What am I still doing awake. Yikes. You look darling as ever at 24 wks pregnant. Lilacs are my favorite flower. Big sis gift ideas: popcorn bucket with microwavable popcorn, m&ms.... fresh yummy bread or muffins from a bakery
ReplyDeleteThose big sis gifts are so cute! I remember doing those in high school. We would fill them with CDs, candy, sporty stuff like headbands, hair things, and color coordinated stuff with our school colors.
ReplyDeleteHow about a $5 starbucks gift card attached to a candy bar. My girls love a guilt free trip to starbucks.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoy following your progress in the pregnancy, my daughter is not far behind you. And you know what is sad about that??... I am your age.lol I married very young, had her young and the she married young and got pregnant 2 months later. Feels very weird to think of being a grandmother when so many woman my age are raising little ones.
Enjoy every minute!
Well you look darling, and honestly, after all the sickness you have suffered through, you deserve to show something for it:-) I must be weird, too, because I am equally thrilled with bleached towels and new lotion. It really is the small things. Love this list of the prdinary, reminds me to delight in my own!
ReplyDeleteHi, I used to have a e-mail account with you. But i am not receiving anymore and I don't know way. So I try to sign again and I find a way to subscrib by e-mail.
ReplyDeleteCould you help me?
Sarah - you are barely showing!!! I'm going to find a pic of me at 24 weeks and show you what HUGE actually looks like ;)
ReplyDeleteOK, here's a link to when I was 5 months pregnant...and already much bigger than you. You look awesome!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://martinfamilymoments.blogspot.com/2011/03/what-difference-year-makes.html
Looks like 30 weeks...HA!!! I'm 27 and I'm twice as big as you are in that picture. No lie. And I'm only on #3. I don't even want to know what I will look like with #6. It won't be cute like your little belly is, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable, and that salsa looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteOooh, and how about some of those delicious cookies (because with 5 kids, there is no way they would go for anything but delicious) stacked on top of each other and wrapped up in cellophane with a ribbon around the top? Easy peasy. Here's a picture just in case my description is lousy.

You look great @24 weeks!
ReplyDeleteWe used to give tiny stuffed animals to our bigs and littles (think beanie babies) - maybe for good luck? Hair ribbons and (dare I say it) scrunchies were popular too. Chocolate is always a hit - chocolate covered pretzels or dipped rods would be easy to make (messy but fun!).
You are TINY for 24 weeks! I love your blog, though rarely comment. But I so appreciated your 'short shorts' post yesterday - my girls are still little, but I know they will be teenagers in no time, and I so appreciated reading your wise take on mother-daughter conflict and compromise.
ReplyDeleteYou look fab!
ReplyDeleteGo Blue! My husband and I both graduated from U of M and now live in Florida. I love reading your posts but where ever you are reminds me so much of where we used to live and I get a little "heart tinge" when I see certain pics. Florida(as you know)has sunshine and beautiful beaches but there is something about the midwest I still long for. Congrats on your pregnancy..we are all so happy for you!
ReplyDeletePatrick is so cute in his soccer gear! And you always crack me up with your "wise cracks!" Loved the comment about "short shorts" haha! Those baskets you made are adorable! And you're a very cute pregnant mama, I do not think you're huge at all-you look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGifts: anything you can use a paint pen on! Those cheap $1 clear frames that stand by themselves, dry erase boards, clear jars filled with M&Ms or some other candy with their team colors on it, thermos cups, etc.
ReplyDeleteYou honestly look great! :)
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous. I always show way early now...multiple pregnancies will do that to you :). Also, I saw this cute idea on pinterest that could work for your gifts too...if you wanted to get all crafty
ReplyDeletehttp://kimskandykreations.blogspot.com/2011/03/chocolate-candy-favors.html
I am giving them out to my kids' teachers this year along with a gift card.
I think magazines are a great idea, but what teen-friendly magazines are appropriate? I used to "sneak" reading Cosmo with my friends and it's all garbage. The gossip magazines are all about who's fat and who's skinny and who's dating who. Maybe I'm just out of the teen magazine scene!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of colorful hairbands...or you could make trail mix with m&ms that are your school colors (I'm sure your boys would be glad to eat the other colors!)
What a cutie! I love the pouting face ;) You look fantastic by the way!! I think the magazine and chocolate bar is a great idea...what about some of your cookies or other fun snacks you make as a part of a present as well??
ReplyDeleteCheers

PS - I didn't mean to sound judgy about magazines but I realize maybe it came across that way. I read People & US Weekly at the beach for sure...
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you are feeling better and more "normal"...that word makes me laugh but you know what I mean... You look amazing and I cannot believe you can enforce the no tv even while you are prego. I think my kids would watch a whole lot of it bc I would be napping!!!
ReplyDeleteLooking good and thumbs up for feeling good too!!
Amy W
Chicago friend:)
Bleached dish towels! LOVE. And you! I love that picture of you. So, so beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteYou look GREAT Sarah! So glad you are feeling better. I can't get enough of your cutie pie Patrick pics - looks like good times with mama!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI read regularly but never post! I love knowing that there are other moms out there like me. Ironic we just went cold turkey on television as well. I called the cable company about a week ago and even turned off our cable - yikes! It has been a bit of an adjustment but the change in my children in just one week is amazing. Now to find a piece of art for over the mantle - the tv just doesn't do it anymore lol
Have a great day!
My Bob just looked over my shoulder and said, "That guy -- that boy -- is cookin suppeh all by himself!" (meaning patrick making cookies) Also Bob has the same "I call the shots" Nike outfit. Wish we were neighbors because I think Bob and Patrick would make great pals.
ReplyDeleteI used to give my sports team "secret pals" mix cds for the bus rides, but I guess that's not an option anymore since the invention of the ipod!
I just love your blog! You have such a cute family and your blog is always so real.
ReplyDeleteYears ago I used a washer spray from the good home company and I had forgot all about it until I saw your hand soap. I think I am going to look the up again because that soap sounds wonderful.
I love the color on your wall in the last picute with your cute tummy...do you know what color that is?
Thanks!
That's big showing? Lucky!!! I look like that now and I'm only 15 weeks! I'm short. There is no where for the baby to go. I too am trying to wean my kids of TV. We watched a lot of it the last few months. Making cookies is a good idea for distraction. I've been pulling out the playdough and paints and stuff to distract mine. And the last two weeks it's been downright hot here in central CA so they've been able to stay outside all day. The TV side-effect is one of my least favorite parts of pregnancy and having a newborn!
ReplyDeleteI just love your Ordinary Days posts. They are so real and I love that.
ReplyDelete(You look dang cute, by the way)
I am 24 weeks tomorrow and trust me my belly is way bigger than yours--and this is only my 3rd baby. Might have something to do with the 10 cm fibroid in there. Just know you look great!
ReplyDeleteYou look simply gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOh, man. His pouty "I can't watch my show" face is classic. What I would give to have the camera turned in your direction to give the "sorry-but-no" stern mom face. Or maybe you you don't give the stern mom face since he's your number 5.
ReplyDeleteYou look great Sarah! It's a girl. I've never been wrong! Well, only once, but I got a strong feelin about your little one :))
ReplyDeletei love these! all of them! though my favorite picture may be of patrick with the head phones. that is adorable and hysterical.
ReplyDeleteOh, pass the sugar cookies, those look so good!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful! I get big baby bellies so yours looks small to me for 24 weeks! Starting at about 18 weeks, strangers would confidently comment in public, "oh when are you due!??" You know you are in trouble when you are obviously pregnant at just 18 weeks! I have big tall babies so I am blaming that-Wynn was almost 23 inches at birth (!!) and at our last u/s the tech commented on how long legged this new baby is!
Hi-
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your blog. I found it about 6 months ago and have been reading daily ever since:) I have a 13 (almost 14) year old daughter and i just have to say that your "short shorts" post was so perfect! Your daughter is beautiful and to be honest i did not even notice that her shorts were short...i really did not, i had to look back at the photos to see what that was all about. I am around girls that age ALL the time so i serioulsy did not even notice. Again, she is absolutely darling! I have a crazy question...where did you get the cute striped bag that i spy hanging on a hook near the kitchen? It is SO cute and would be perfect for summer!
-stephanie
That salso looked so good! I really have to make it some day, nam!
ReplyDeleteI like your blog, came across here couple months ago, and I am loving to read it :)!Welcome to stop by at my blog!
Good luck w/ your pragnancy! You look good!!!
I love the sweet gifts - here are my ideas.
ReplyDeleteA big bottle of bubbles with a fun wand tied on with a ribbon.
A four pack of bottled sodas - pick up a soda drink carrier & mix the flavors.
Bottled water with favorite drink flavors to mix in.
Cute caps with felt or cloth flowers.
Oh, I'm fighting the tv battle over here too. I don't know how hard Patrick fights you over it, but my 4 year old son will NOT let it go! We've done "tv fasts" before- guess it's that time again for this mother to get serious too!
ReplyDeleteYou get so much done! I love the new stuff you got done around the house! You look terrific pregnant! Love the cookies too!
ReplyDelete~ Ali
Ahhh, I love Patrick lying on his uniform. So cute!
ReplyDeleteyou look so beautiful
ReplyDeleteYou look wonderful, so thankful you're feeling better, now you can truly enjoy these cherished days of pregnancy. My husband always said that I had a special "glow" when carrying our children. (Perhaps he was blinded by love!)
ReplyDeleteAnd no, there's nothing weird about nice clean dish towels making you happy...I always feel this way after putting away stacks of clean, fresh laundry, especially if I hung it out on the clothesline. As though all is somehow right in my world.
I think this special feeling is that of contentment, which is all too rare in this hurry-scurry world of ours. Seems most people seek the perpetual "highs" of life...a new house, new car, expensive vacation, etc. But there is nothing that money can buy that creates in me the feeling that envelops me when my entire family are all under one roof, safely tucked in their beds, as my husband and I lay (or lie?) there, listening to the chorus of the spring night, and count our blessings as we fall asleep. Thank you Lord...
