I have had this hankering for the last month and have collected quite an admirable amount of pictures of screened in porches I like. So many in fact, that I used an entire expensive cartridge of color printer ink. I have also talked about screened in porches so much that my family told me to stop doing that. I started calling them SIP's for short because I myself, got tired from hearing me say the words "screened in porch" over and over again.
Here are a few:

ReplyDeleteOOOps typo. Ok I said the pics are beautiful!! Do you think you will get one? I would Love one too!
ReplyDeletePretty!
ReplyDeleteAnd a whole cartridge of printer ink?! You need a Pinterest! (Here's mine if you're curious - http://pinterest.com/rainintorainbow/pins/)
Check it out -- it's really cool!
We love our SIP! The absolute best is early spring, when it is first warm enough to sit outside at night, sitting in the porch swing, wrapped in a blanket, watching thunderstorms.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the one in the first picture. I want one just like that.
ReplyDeleteI would love one, too! A screened in porch in the back and a large front porch. Thanks for sharing these pics - wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWe have a front and back porch, but neither are screened in...but I love them! However, we haven't gotten to enjoy them too much this season as it has been 100+ and even the fans don't help!
ReplyDeleteWe live ours!! Especially now with the cooler nights..I sit out there and read and listen to the crickets...remember you sat out there? All 5 of your kids sat with you on the couch! :)
ReplyDeleteI love a screened in porch...my grandparents use to have one and we spent many hours in it growing up. And....I too was thinking you need to sign up to pinterest.com.
ReplyDeleteThanks ~ now you have me wanting one one too and I wasn't even in the market! I bet you will find a way to make it happen!
ReplyDeletebeautiful! i especially love the last one with all those lamps. i hope you get a SIP.
ReplyDeleteI have a screened in porch and LOVE it! We hung those little Italian-looking lights all along the top of the screens, near the ceiling, and they add so much to it. It's my favorite room in my house.
ReplyDeleteI love the word "hankering." Your use of it warmed my heart!
ReplyDeleteYour inspiration photos are great. SIPs are wonderful rooms, in my opinion. Mine is not large, but I love it--an outdoor space with no mosquitos?? You betcha! Actually, the covered front porch and the screened-in porch were two of the features that really sold me on our house.
I want a SIP, too! The pictures are great.
ReplyDeleteOH I would give my left arm (not really, but close) for a house with enough character to pull off a screened in porch! I live in Vegas and our houses have NO character and there are no screened in porches! :(
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that last one! I agree - something about a SIP that is so inviting. Especially in the summer time. I'd be happy with some sort of porch period! Everything around here is well - you know what it is. Similar to Cheryl's situation in Vegas (just noticed the previous comment). More columns than porches around here. :( BTW-have you started using Pinterest yet? It's a great way to save pictures like the ones you shared so you don't have to print everything off (although I love printing things too). You could have a fabulous category titled SIP and have them all in one place.
ReplyDeletep.s. Loved that back to school picture of you and your siblings!
I SO ENJOY OUR FRONT PORCH... I LIVE OUT THERE. IT IS OPEN, NO SCREEN. HAVING IT THAT WAY ALMOST INVITES THOSE NEIGHBORS WALKING BY, TO STOP AND SAY "HEY!"
ReplyDeleteTHE HOUSE DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM US HAS ONE PORCH THAT IS SCREENED OFF AND A SECTION THAT IS OPEN. THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. :)
HUGS FROM MY HEART
that last one is unreal.
ReplyDeleteit's the perfect place.
so lovely.
and NO bugs!!
it's on my wishlist too. :)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love our SIP. The absolute best room in the house. We are out here from March to November. You will never regret having one! Hope you get to get one!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a home, for a few years - with a screened in porch, and we LOVED it!! The porch however was cement, and I am prone to going that route with the upkeep of the wood on our deck. Yep, I see next summer's project...
ReplyDeleteI have a screened in porch and I love it. I wish mine looked as great as that first one, but I am not complaining. While I didn't have to build mine, I would think they are worth every single penny, especially if you life in a fairly mild climate.
ReplyDeleteI love these porches! We're currently dreaming about screening in our back porch. Just a little piece of heaven! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYES. I love my porch...it is like going on a mini vacation.
ReplyDeleteI love those porches! Of course, if we had one here we would get scorched out there most of the year, but when we lived in VA I dreamed of SIP's all the time :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for including my porch in this wonderful grouping. I like that word: SIPs...just may have to adopt that. Well, there's only one way I know to fix a "hankering." I think Sarah needs her own SIP! I promise you'll be so happy you added it and it will become your most favorite "room." :)
We don't have mosquitoes to worry about in the desert, but we have lots of other creepy little critters...a screened in porch would be lovely! I've always loved the idea of a sleeping porch too...
ReplyDeleteWe had a SIP for 10 years but had to move last year. Boy do I miss it!!! Ours inspired a few friends to add one on, too. You would LOVE one!!!
ReplyDeleteOne thing to think about if you do add one, it does block light from existing rooms, so think it through!
You want a SIP and I want to RIP the screens off my porch! My ideal would be to take our existing back porch and give it another 3 feet, change out the screens and add windows so it could be a more "livable" space. We don't get much of a spring or fall to enjoy the outside spaces before it gets HOT or COLD. Would love to have a sun porch so we could use it year round!
ReplyDeleteMy family is sick of hearing about my hankering for a wrap around porch!
ReplyDeleteLOVE these photos...fun inspiration and dreaming!
I just want to thank you... actually my porch wants to thank you. I have taken it for granted this summer, since it was too hot to sit out there, and so after reading your post last night, I went out and got some potted plants and got out my broom and prettied the place up!
ReplyDeleteScreened in porch? Yes, please! We had one in one of our houses growing up, and my siblings & I played in there for hours, in the cozy sun. It was lovely.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm totally obsessed with words as well (English major talking) and I love the homespun ones you love--hankering, boohooing. Colloquialisms are the best (how's that for a mouthful).
That last picture is delightful!
ReplyDeleteWe share the same porch fantasy. We've even had a builder come out and give us a quote (ouch!!). But my porch fantasy includes a kitchen renovation, hardwood floors throughout and french doors on my current dining room to make it my office. So, it was a little pricey, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteSome day...
In the mean time, I sit on my deck a LOT, under an umbrella. Listening to the birds.
That does sound so heavenly! Imagining myslef relaxing on a comfy chaise in one of your porch pictures warms my heart like Christmas morning!
ReplyDeleteYes! I've been talking about it for 2 years! :>) My poor husband can sympathize with your family on the "Please, hush!" feeling! Maybe someday...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that last picture looks like something out of a dream. Amazing. I loved the first one too.
ReplyDeleteI have a screened in porch in need to a makeover. It's a disaster.
ReplyDeleteI love that you have taken to calling them SIP's. I think SIP's are great. I would love to have one. My sister recently got one at her up north cottage. They used EZE Breeze screen/windows. They are great. Check them out.
ReplyDeleteAre those bug screen type curtains in that last photo? If so, that's pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI am hankering to close in my deck to make a SIP...can't stand the mosquitoes any longer, plus all the stuff out there gets all icky from being wet, and its got walls on 3 sides so the leaves get stuck in there! YES I need a SIP! so I need a roof and one wall and one door! not too much to ask is it?
