18 Years

Our 18th wedding anniversary is today.

The best thing I ever did was marry the man I did.
And I really really mean that.
The best, smartest decision I ever made-which astounds me because I was pretty young, and not very experienced at making good decisions.

But this post is not about me, or us.

It's about saying
thank you.
To our parents, through their example...

...showed us how to be married.

And their parents, who set the example for them.

Who said their vows before we did and then lived them daily for decades and decades.

To have and to hold
from this day forward,
For better for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
until death do us part.

They all raised many, many children, with joy.  No doubt chaos, stress, worry, buy joy overriding it all.

There is no doubt they all worked hard at their marriages,
and found ways to grow and change together-not apart.

Thank you for showing us the way.

  17. Oh, wow...I LOVE this post!! Congratulations and best wishes on your anniversary. I especially love all the pictures of your parents and grandparents that you shared. I often think about my own ancestors on those days where I seem to be struggling the most as a wife and mother. My heart warms when I think back to their lives, knowing that even though it was a different era, they experienced so many of the same things I am experiencing in my life at this time. Their strength and example have always had a powerful influence on me and my life. Such a lovely and thoughtful post, Sarah. I really enjoyed this.

    Hugs,

  34. Happy Anniversary! I loved this post so much. It reminded me of our wedding 12 years ago, because I put something very similar on the back of my (homemade) programs. Wedding pictures of each of our parents and grandparents who, despite many tough times, stayed true to each other and stuck together.
