I know when asked about my children's ages I will mess up and call Matt 11 this year, just like I called him 10 all last year. I can't seem to catch up with this child! Next year will be a toughy...13! But why think about that now, right? My three oldest are 16, 14, 12. That sounds nice and even.
Here's what Matt asked for for his birthday. A Scrabble game, and a zip front sweatshirt. That's it, and that says everything you need to know about Matthew. Kind, settled, smart, quiet, and he knows what he likes.
I love him.
And he hates getting his picture taken as much as I do so I try to accommodate his non-photo-taking needs as much as possible. Here's some quick ones from yesterday.
Bright and early while everyone is still present, we watch the birthday kid open presents.
This was NOT NOT NOT my idea. Just let's make that clear. In fact, I gave Jeff quite a glare when he brought it home, and when Matt opened it he was so excited. (That's his excited face.)
But of course I had to say,
"You'll shoot your eye out!"
And by the way Uncle Joe, I find you a small bit responsible for this gift with your Thanksgiving Day introduction.

We are partial, can you tell?
Matt asked for an angel food cake, and we decided on green frosting together. Yum.
Hope you had a Happy Birthday, my Matthew!

I love birthday posts for your children, a chance to brag on one in particular! Matthew seems like a wonderful young man. He will have loads of fun with the unexpected bbgun, and you will have unexpected fun watching him have fun and worry every single time he takes it out! That is just being a mom! Happy day, Matthew!
Happy Birthday to your son!
Sarah,
You won't believe this...but remember my Kate who shares a b-day with Matt (she turned 11). She ALSO asked for an angel food cake.
Happy Birthday future son-in-law!
Beth
I hated when hubs got our boys a BB Gun too! But they are grown now and have both eyes...and so do their friends.:)
Happy birthday to your cute Matthew!!
"You'll shoot your eye out kid".
It's amazing, you blink and they are born. You blink and they are walking. you blink and they are starting school. You blink and they are turning 12. How does that happen?
My son has that exact same gun, and to ease your mind, he still has both his eyes. That hasn't stopped me from chanting, "You'll shoot your eye out!" every time he goes out to shoot his BB gun.
Happy birthday to your sweet boy!
Happy Birthday to your Matthew!!! That sounds like a sweet sweet boy right there ;) And around here,....wouldn't be a birthday without an angel food cake :D YUM!!!!!!!
Happy birthday Matthew! I've always thought 12 was a big birthday.
I know what you mean! Mine are 5,7,9,11,13,15 and 17 but now they are about to all have birthdays and mess me up.
Laughing hard over the red ryder bb gun. You're a good sport! Sweet thoughts on your growing boy. Happy Birthday Matt!
I would have said "You'll shoot your eye out, too" and we're partial to Breyer's too..... see, we're totally twinkies!
