After I Got My Act Together:
My dining room set was bought second hand for not much at all...I can't remember exactly but I'd say around $150 I think. With the sideboard. When I painted it black I liked it even more. Here is my tutorial on how to do that. It has held up so well. The sideboard has a scratch on it, but it was all my fault....I dragged my nativity scene across it. I will touch it up one day soon...that happened in 2009, so you can see I consider it quite urgent.
The simple light fixture is from Lowes. The rug also. The curtains also.
The paint color is Shallow Tide from you guessed it, Lowes.
i literally just this week went back and read that tutorial of yours for some courage to paint my livingroom armoire. that set was clearly begging to be painted black...gorgeous. but it is that first brush stroke that is a brave thing and then after that it's just fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I would start in our dining room too...not much going on in there either!!:) We finally got our muddy garage cleaned out this weekend, I think I need to bring the spring cleaning love inside too!
ReplyDeleteI love your white curtains. We have read ones and I am really getting tired of RED!!!!!
Have a happy day
You are always such an inspiration... especially to get me going in the cleaning and organizing department!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Seriously you need to help me stage my house to go on the market in two weeks! Or just keep posting pics to give me inspiration. I am not that excited to leave NC for OH but I must make it work.
ReplyDeleteI can see why you love it- it's serene....
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to paint a piece of furniture but it just scares me..im definately going to have to check out your tutorial.
ReplyDeleteWow that is NICE! Really Love your Table!!
ReplyDeleteAnd blog too btw! xx
Such a pretty color in your dining room. I just love it!
ReplyDeleteI was just here for an hour or more looking at your pages about how you did this project on Saturday. :) And you gave me the courage to try some new things--how cool is that? I love coming here and getting inspired by you and the way you do things. Excellence but not perfectionism. Great combo. Thanks for blogging this stuff.
ReplyDeleteLove simple and fresh :) And I love not having to move a gazillion things off to clean around :) Pritty Pritty!
ReplyDeleteOk...I have a question for you. My husband built a built-in shelf in our playroom. We painted it but it's no where near having a good finish to it. Especially since the kids got their hands & toys near it. He needs to re-sand it so we can finish it properly. Here's the post so you can see a picture of it. What paint to you suggest using, especially since this is in a playroom and will be housing toys for the next 5-8 years I'm sure! Haha! Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

A friend of mine has painted almost all of her furniture black. It looks great and goes with almost any kind of style! I just might try it on my old dining room table...using your tutorial, of course!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I awarded you a Stylish Blogger award over on my site.
Good for you to start the spring cleaning early. I need some serious motivation.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your dining room! Simple and fresh!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour original post inspired me to find a table and chairs to paint. And this second post inspired me to finally post about my project. I followed all of your suggestions--about paint, brushes, no primer, etc. Thank you for making it sound so doable with a house full of kids--I'm so glad I followed your example!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting your ideas. I decided that I wanted to paint my guest room with the shallow tide but evidently they've changed the formula - shallow tide is now tan, with no blue or green anywhere to be found ......oh well, I think I got something close but it seems a bit darker. Love the hints on painting furniture - hope to do that next!
