The Annual Pinata Party (and A Winner)

My husband’s family has an annual traditional Pinata Party given by his parents…a huge undertaking…Santa visits and then all the kids beat the heck out of a pinata.  Well, two pinatas…since there are so many kids, there is ONE pinata for the younger bunch and one for the older bunch.  No one has been seriously maimed, but trust me, it’s by mere slivers of a chance.  You will hear, “Get behind the line!” 10 times a minute.  Mostly it’s fun…mostly it’s really wild…most every time ONE kid will cry…some kids get tons of candy, some kids don’t, the boys show off (Lucas you are get my vote as the hardest pinata hitter of all times!), one kid will get mad at another kid (always siblings of course)…YOU KNOW, it’s the Pinata Party!  What we would do without it?  The kids look forward to it every year.

  9. When we do pinatas, we have a ton of family and cousins involved too. We finally found a solution that maybe took away a part of the fun, but is also took away the tears too. We prebag the candy into ziplocs with one for each child. They still get the fun of grabbing for one. We put a "bonus" item in one of the bags though to keep it fun. Neat party theme.

  10. Wow! What a great tradition! I have to say, I'm a little jealous that I didn't grow up in a family that was so rich in traditions as your own :( But wow! How great are your kids' families going to be because of all this!!!! Leaving a legacy rich in tradition---I'm bound and determined to do it for our boys :)

  11. Cute pics, and it looks like so much fun!

On an unrelated note, I love that grey sweater that the girl in your 8th picture (your niece?) is wearing. Any idea where she got that?
